Jessica Coen once grayed me for rewriting a headline on a Jez story after she specifically told readers to come up with something better (her headline was inaccurate, and for extra irony, it was on a story criticizing XOJane for an inaccurate headline). She changed the headline to the one I’d wrote, but she still

The point is that it isn’t evidence that the rational, evidence-based position is always wrong. In fact, the opposite. Taking the evidence-based position is always the right thing to do

That’s exactly my point, though. That rational, defendable, evidence-based position was wrong. It doesn’t matter how right it should have been if only the normal rule book had been followed. The normal rule book wasn’t followed, and Trump is president.

I admire your optimism, and I wish I could share it. I’m not being remotely sarcastic when I say I hope you’re right and I’m wrong.

I honestly don’t believe that there is anything Trump could do at this point that would lead to impeachment charges — or at least, nothing bad. If he said, “I support bodily autonomy for women, I think brown people are real human beings and I’m deeply sorry for committing serial sexual assault,” he’d be out on his ass

When I was about 15, I sat my mother down and asked her to stop forcing me to go to church. I said that I was more than old enough to decide if I wanted to be a Christian, and that making me do something I hated week in and week out just increased my bitterness and unhappiness with the religion as a whole. I also said

They never actually boycott Starbucks, do they? They keep organizing “boycotts” that involve swarming into Starbucks stores around the country to teach them a lesson by buying lots of their products.

I love many things about Arrested Development, but they got a lot of mileage out of the “women we consider ugly are disgusting and barely human” trope. It makes it hard to rewatch.

That’s why I have trouble empathizing. If you’re angry that your supposed niceness isn’t getting you laid, you are not a nice person. If you feel to repeatedly announce what a nice person you are, you are almost certainly not a nice person.

Modern Christians would crucify Jesus.

I’d bet there’s also a significant Venn diagram overlap of Trump voters and so-called liberal voters ...

I saw Joe Lo Truglio at the Silverlake dog park a few years ago, and he spent a good 5 minutes petting my dog and gushing about how cute he is.

I bet there is a significant Venn diagram overlap of Trump voters and Entourage fans.

She’s a good writer who happens to be a woman who hates other women.

Also that they’re lying, and you can tell because they’re so ugly Moore would never have considered sexually abusing them.

Not really a reward, but I got the fun of making a person’s day completely unexpectedly once.

It goes without saying (or at least, it should) that dog owners should keep their dogs on leashes in public spaces. But there are always going to be irresponsible dog owners, and there are always going to be stray dogs.

And don’t ever grab a dog’s face or tail. You’d think this would be common sense, but the number of parents who assume dogs just love it when their darling children yank and pull at them with no warning is staggering.
