From my understanding, this isn't manslaughter. Manslaughter is basically "you should have known better, but you didn't/it didn't occur to you." Depraved heart murder requires knowledge and intent—you know that your victim stands a very good chance of dying, and you go ahead anyway (often while misleading or lying to

I think that was in the first Jezebel article about it, because I did the same thing. If so, though, they removed it pretty quickly.

Once I was pretty high and decided to make a grilled cheese sandwich, and forgot to take the wax paper out from between the two slices of cheese that I used. I realized it about a third of the way in but didn't want my sandwich to go to waste so ate the rest of it. The texture kind of works in a grilled cheese, at

I have absolutely 0 desire to ever go to Burning Man, but I have to agree with them here: it's a playa. That's an accurate descriptive term for a dry lakebed and is common usage in the southwest/west.

Right? And having been kind of in the letter writer's shoes (I am bi and was married to a man for a long time, although I've mostly dated women so I'm not exactly like her), I think that bi people in hetero relationships are actually in a uniquely influential spot with homophobic people. They see you as being just

Yeah, I totally understand that. It does seem to me that she's willing to take that risk, and while I don't think anyone should feel *obligated* to come out, I think if people are willing to, that can really help advance LGBT-acceptance because people see that we're just normal folks. But it is definitely something to

But isn't that an argument in favor of coming out? She might be able to educate people and get them to open their minds a bit.

Yeah, that's my understanding of it. I'm guessing there were complications that made her seek help.

You've got the order reversed. She gave birth outside the hospital and then sought medical help.

Also it won't let me edit but I wanted to add that I agree with your point. :)

She isn't single. She's engaged to Justin Theroux, who is definitely a smaller celebrity than Pitt but still pretty famous.

My grandmother is the most prim and proper woman imaginable and I'm...not. She's always hated my tattoos and piercings.

Yeah, I'm feeling inspired by that too. It's (and she's) gorgeous.

That's interesting because my experience has been pretty different. I know a lot of people of the sorts who describe themselves as carnivores and would never consider even swearing off a particular meat product, much less go vegetarian, but are still very concerned with treating meat animals well before slaughtering

That is really depressing but I believe it. When I was doing political canvassing I was always surprised at the racial makeup of areas that were generally perceived as all-black or all-Latino/a. There were a bunch of white people living in them too, but since they weren't the overwhelming majority, people outside

Oh no, don't feel bad. :( TBH, I probably would have done it too. I just wish it wasn't necessary, you know? Transport, being in unfamiliar environments, even a few unfamiliar people (or even familiar people—honestly, at the really high-end breeding farm I worked at, we watched the births through CCTV so we could come

I don't know, the last time I read a livestock article on Jezebel people were speculating about a steer's breeding prospects, so maybe they're a bit gun shy. ;)

Thank you. I always appreciate your posts too, so it actually means a lot. :)

I have to admit, as someone with livestock experience, the fact that there's a "birthing pavilion" at a freaking State Fair is troubling. I mean, when we used to show horses at State Fair and we always had to give strangles boosters because if you didn't, it was practically a guarantee they'd be coming home with that.

Oh man, that sounds terrible! The place I worked at was really...iconic, for lack of a better word. It's an a city where a lot of stuff is filmed, and is used often for that, so I think that's part of why the cameras were so common.
