Haha, I kinda pulled a Nancy Grace there, didn't I? Yeah, they were fine, just a bit dehydrated and scared.

No, not really. I actually just watched James Serpell give a really interesting talk on breed and aggression at a recent conference. He's firmly against any sort of breed-specific legislation. Basically, breed isn't a reliable predictor of aggression, especially when you consider the different types of aggression…
I'm a dog trainer and I've run across a lot of aggressive Danes (a lot of really nice ones, too). A lot of them have weak temperaments and a surprising amount of owners don't do early puppy socialization and all that, which is basically a recipe for a bite.
Yeah, that's definitely the other possibility, sadly. Or some combination thereof. I think it's pretty likely that he didn't actually know his son was in the basement, given the fact that they were the ones that involved the police IIRC. It's a really weird situation though, so who knows.
Search and rescue, and thanks. :)
That's not as true as you'd think. Some people do that, others freeze or collapse, especially if they believe the child is dead. I saw one woman literally not be able to understand that we'd found her husband and their young child (and these were missing hikers, so no chance she was involved) for like 5 minutes, and…
Yeah, this. I've seen people being told their missing loved ones had been located (in very different circumstances, but still) and reactions are all over the place. I thought his reaction was believable.
Not really when the end result is still an unwanted pregnancy. But now we're getting into a stupid semantic discussion so I'm done.
I'm a pro-choice Christian so you're preaching to the choir. :) Thank you for linking that article. The pro-life movement's interpretation of the Bible has always struck me as rather odd. I actually started out as pro-life but when I read the relevant verses it became pretty clear to me that there wasn't really the…
Condoms are significantly less effective with typical use than hormonal birth control, especially hormonal birth control like the implant, which is really hard to interfere with. That's why I'm saying it—if she can't get another implant when hers expires, switching to condoms will significantly increase her likelihood…
It's basically following God's law (as they interpret it) to the letter, even if it is cruel and lacking in even the smallest trace of compassion, just like Jesus said we should do. Oh, wait...
I'd never thought about it like that but I think that's a really good insight. It definitely explains why they don't seem to care that abortion rates aren't tied to whether it is legal or not.
I think in some ways it is especially egregious in large, primarily rural states like Texas. I don't know the exact situation there but in most areas like that, any healthcare access is already a significant problem for poorer rural residents who don't have reliable transportation. Further limiting that access because…
And also prone to breaking or otherwise being compromised. I mean, they're useful and certainly better than nothing, but they're hardly guaranteed to prevent pregnancy 100% of the time.
My dog locked me out of the house once. I went outside for a minute and she jumped up and hit the deadbolt. I didn't have my keys or phone or anything so I had to walk around until I found a neighbor who was home so I could use their phone to call my husband to come let me in so that I could get to work. It was pretty…
I am right there with you. When I was younger I didn't shave for a few years and it was fine, but it's not really the image I want to project now. Which sucks, because I hate shaving and I feel like a bad feminist for giving into societal pressure like that.
In your first comment you said there's nothing wrong with the shirt, though. And there is. I mean, this particular t-shirt isn't going to have as much of an impact because it's not as pervasive as sports mascots, but it's the same type of imagery and there are a lot of other, similar shirts.
It isn't the same, but these kind of depictions of Native Americans do have a real effect. Studies have shown that Native American kids have lower self-esteem and less confidence after being shown images of mascots similar to the image on that t-shirt. It certainly isn't the biggest issue, but it does cause harm and…
That one looks considerably more difficult to get stuck in.
I love how he said, "really?" before the "feet-first" line. He is hilarious.
