I think you'll find that a lot of people on this site aren't big fans of the "People of Walmart"-type photos either. I've seen at least comment on this very article complaining about them.

Haha, that kind of thing was the only time I've ever done it too. I saw a guy on a bus who looked EXACTLY like the actor who plays Jason Stackhouse on True Blood. I took a picture and sent it to my sister to make sure I wasn't crazy.

I've had a huge problem with mild respiratory illnesses too. At this point I just go to my doctor at the first symptoms and check with him throughout because it always lingers or develops into pneumonia or has some other bullshit complication. I am not a violent person but I seriously want to punch people who act like

Yep, I had to beg my dad to come stay with me (I lived on a farm and couldn't find someone to take care of the livestock so couldn't leave). He thought I was exaggerating until he was with me for a day and then was like "why didn't you call me earlier?!" I only called him after I woke up all bloody from a split

For sure. I just often see whooping cough excused as "it's not that bad if you get it when you're a little older, so just be careful with infants!" Which not only totally ignores people who are immune-compromised, but also isn't really true. I mean yes, as a healthy person in my early 30s I wasn't at much risk of

She at least deserves the case of whooping cough I got a few years back after visiting an area with a high number of anti-vaxxers. I always thought it was a myth that you could break a rib from coughing but it turns out it isn't!

I wouldn't have a problem with it, assuming the facts being presented are accurate. This reminds me a lot of the Juliet Hulme/Pauline Parker case—similar intense friendship, imaginary worlds, etc. Those girls were both released after a relatively short time and neither has reoffended.

I've done the apology on the check/as a little note thing before. I like it because it doesn't put the server on the spot and risk making them uncomfortable, but it still acknowledges and apologizes for the bad behavior. I'm sure the generous tip is the bigger deal, but I think it's a nice addition.

I'd be okay with this if it ended the use of the term "furbabies."

I looked into it a few years before I decided to become a member and that's what both the Costcos in my state said. I guess they could have been wrong and/or lying to me, though. I didn't care enough to wade through the law on the matter. ;) Most articles I've seen talking about the alcohol thing say it's dependent on

Dog food is another big one. The grain-free Kirkland variety (Nature's Domain) is very good quality and about $30 less than a bag of a comparable quality dog food in the pet store. My membership is paid in two bags.

It depends on the state laws. In my state you do have to be a member.

It's illegal in all 50 states, but unfortunately it still happens a lot.

ETA: nevermind, very redundant reply here. :) The others weren't there when I posted and I don't want to make you feel piled on.

I'd be willing to bet money that you're wrong. I know a few trans people and they all make extensive plans before flying. I'm sure some of the people in the article didn't plan ahead or contact the TSA, but I think you're giving a lot more credit to the TSA than it's due.

Why do you assume trans people do not research before they fly? The problem as I understand it is that there *is* no good way to handle it. From the Al Jazeera article: "Feinstein said that the agency has no formal policy specific to transgender passengers and that there are no anticipated changes to TSA's policies

Thank you! :)

I have radically pacifist religious beliefs. Now, personally, I recognize it isn't black and white and so understand why, say, soldiers go to war, or people kill in self-defense. But many in my denomination take "turn the other cheek" at its most radical meaning and don't believe there's any justification for war or

Why would you expand the thread in the first place, though? I just read the first few replies to this kind of post (barring a notification to a comment I make, of course) and keep scrolling.

I think this is a point that is so often overlooked. *Even if* a violent misogynist is only violent because of a mental illness (which I don't believe for a second is true of all of them), there's a reason the illness manifested the way it did. The way mental illnesses manifest are heavily influenced by the culture
