For real. Adding to what you said, Jezebel seems to forget pretty often that feminism is a political movement, not a collection of tools for women to feel better about ourselves on an individual level.

I think in heraldry terms, you’d say “Pussy rampant”.
I don’t disagree with the fact that $9 for jelly toast is ridic, but your calculation doesn’t include the rent, labor, or insurance costs, though I have no idea what to even break those down to per toast.
24 slices in a loaf of bread. You can get a loaf of brioche for about $4. You can get 48 oz of pretty good ricotta for $5. You can get two pints of raspberries for $10-$16. You can get 4 lbs of sugar for like $9. So, 4+5+16+9=34, divided by 24, about $1.40 per toast. I’m sure they’re at least pretending to use fancier…
I read that they were storing the jam improperly which contributed to the mold. They put the jam in tall plastic tubs (cambros) instead of shallow hotel pans in an ice bath as they should have. The plastic retains the heat and prevents the product from cooling and creates a perfect lil home for mold to grow. That much…
Jam and preserves aren’t the same thing; not in ingredients and not in how they are cooked. Fresh jam is highly perishable even with refrigeration. Hence, why the mold developed (a point of confusion in the Eater article).
The kindest explanation for the moldy jam is that they were trying to make low-sugar jams and not paying attention to the fact that sugar is a preservative, and without a significant portion of sugar, jam goes bad a lot faster than one might otherwise expect.
The Jezebel writeup is so different than The Root’s writeup. In the Jezebel writeup, there’s a lot of energy given to how coy Jada and Will are about the timeline of events, and how most people will never really know what happened, and pokes fun at the overuse of the word “healing”, which, legit.
THIS. The article is acting like the dog was taken BECAUSE the owner was homeless. No- the dog was taken because she was being abused and desperately needed medical attention.
Hold on now, am I not understanding this right?
HEART L.A. says Luna was a support animal that helped him complete daily tasks
“Well vet, i know my dog has cancer, is malnourished and doesn’t move much but.. i can’t euthanize them.. because then who would give me emotional support?”
This animal was struggling with basic tasks. Humans, housed or unhoused, do NOT get to use animals as punching bags. The animal has a right to an existence free of pain and suffering, just as much as humans.
Thank you. In this instance, the vets found evidence (internal organs so damaged that the dog was incontinent, vulva and anus so swollen that she couldn’t sit) of at best neglect and at worst abuse. Come on people, that stuff just doesn’t randomly happen to a dog. We can fight for more dignity for houseless people and…
That’s great... except when the dog is kept in deplorable conditions.
I find it extremely messed up that this article focuses on how the dog provided emotional support this homeless man, with zero regard to the pain and suffering of the animal itself... If one of my animals is ever living in this condition i hope to god someone would take it away from me.
it’s all to... frame a dog-neglecter (at best) in a sympathetic light? :/
Unhoused? So homeless, right? If I am without a horse I am horseless, not unhorsed. Did he have a wild house which refused to be ridden and bucked him off? Unhoused...
just adding: the sudden call for obedience and lawfulness in comparison to more recent articles is also odd. all around, this seems like something that should be applauded rather than shamed (again, especially considering the dog’s condition).
assuming that the influencer is telling the truth about the dog’s condition (which is at least somewhat supported by the dog needing a wheelchair)... i wonder how much this differs from saving an abused/neglected animal from a nearby yard? the headline makes it sound like she just wanted a dog she saw and took it for…
