That is one thing that my BF and I are very strict about. Everybody gets to be selfish sometimes. Sometimes, somebody gets a night that is all about them. No reciprocation allowed, just pure selfish sexytimes. It is The Best Thing Ever.

For the same reason nutrition labels include a list of ingredients: because people like to know what is in their food. High fructose corn syrup is safe but people like to know when it is in their food, presumably so they can avoid it if they wish to.

I agree there is a lot of wasted food.

I think the issue here is not whether the GMOs will be planted, but rather, whether GMO foods will be labeled as such. I'm typically in favor of giving people more choice.
