I thought most members of the Tolkien estate actually liked the films, and it was only Christopher Tolkien (who also happens to be the one who controls the rights to any of the not already licensed works) who hates them?

Now playing

Poor Setsuna... This is just one of the reasons I was upset with the change in Pluto's status. It will always be a planet to me! They can change definitions all they want, Pluto should have been grandfathered in.

All I know is the best line was, "Dude... stop trying to have sex with me." I will now be genuinely disappointed by the lack of this line in the actual movie.

I must admit that I don't read much in the way of comics. (Well, domestic comics... I do have a decent selection of manga.) So this isn't something I've kept up on. But this does bring to mind a few questions concerning Coulson's crew...

Not all commercial Transformers toys suck. The Generations line (descendant of the excellent Classics line) is still pumping out great things. I mean, really, who'd have thought we'd ever get an official update of Metroplex? And huge! Over two feet tall in robot mode!

To each their own, I suppose. I think the official one looks better. And has the benefit of not being a stolen and slightly altered design! (I'm all for original third party products, but I am quite against bootleg toys!*)

To be fair, even though Optimus Prime was announced and released first, it seems pretty clear that the toy was designed with Motormaster in mind, and Optimus was just their obvious choice of a redeco. (Yet, actually, I think it works better as an Optimus. While I have no plans for a Combiner Wars Menasor, I do want to

Well, while there are some exceptions (which I try to avoid, myself) most of these third party products are original molds, not direct copies of Hasbro or Takara products. And they don't sell them under the original figures names, and don't include any copyrighted logos or the like. (For example, the Decepticon logos

That third party Superion Argh shared, Uranos, is from a company called TFC Toys. Personally, I'm not a fan of their combiners, but there are a lot of people who are fans of them. I just find them a bit pricy, a bit oversized, and usually lacking a bit in the aesthetics department... which they usually then end up

Eh, I don't care for the look or scale of TFC's combiners, so I never was interested in their Superion. So I am really looking forward to the Hasbro one, even though one of the limbs has been replaced with some interloping helicopter. Worst case scenario I live with the helicopter. But there is some hope that Hasbro

Yeah, the Hot Toys figures are too rich even for my blood... If you are interested in combiners, though, while I think the Hasbro Menasor coming out looks like crap, their Superion actually looks quite nice!

Ah yes, so you did!

Since they're not really the kind of thing you'll ever see walking into a domestic toy store, third-party (unofficial) Transformers-based toys probably aren't that widely known outside of Transformers specific fandom... but my favorite toy acquisition of the past year would come from this niche market. Before

How about the ones from Diamond Select? I only have the refit version, but I should expect their TV version of good ol' NCC-1701 (no bloody A, B, C, or D!) would be of similar quality. Not a super high end product by any means, but strikes a great balance between being affordable and looking good on your shelf.

I'd have to sheepishly admit that, while it certainly isn't Galactica at its finest, I don't exactly hate Galactica 1980 myself. I am glad the upcoming Blu-ray release of the original Galactica is including it! It would have been an easy thing to omit, and I am sure not many would have been too upset. But I, for one,

Well, the episode, The Return of Starbuck wasn't bad... but it does kind of ignore the rest of the Galactica 1980 cast just to focus on, "Hey, look, everybody! It's Starbuck! Remember him? You liked him! Please like our show!"

If the effects look dated, like ST:TOS where you can see the compositing in the space scenes, a case can be made.

Babylon 5 is one of the few shows where I'd actively like for them to re-do all of the effects work. But to be fair, that actually was the original production intent. Alas, they made the incorrect assumption that as CGI technology became better and more common, it would also become less expensive... And alas, this

Well, it depends on the answer of the original question, doesn't it? "Do we really need remasters of old shows?" Answer: Dear God, yes, we do! (If done right.) So how about DS9 next? Eh? Eh?

I presume you mean the ads at the end of the show, such as the ones saying, "Watch Gunsmoke, on many of these same channels!"? I kind of think those were kind of a neat inclusion... And, well, they are at the very short, and at the end of the episodes, so it isn't as if they are very offensive or not easy to skip.
