I will add that if your parents were emotionally or physically abusive, it helps normalize their behavior. It wasn't until I got out of my DV relationship and got help that I truly realized just how nasty my parents had been to each other and myself emotionally.

We were never discussing just how this assignment was implemented By this teacher. Even if this particular teacher implemented the assignment poorly, that doesn't mean the assignment is unworthy of being taught. I don't know what happened because I only have the NY Post to go by.

There is nothing to prevent teenagers from leading the class discussion while the teacher merely facilitates a safer space. Further, assuming the teacher is going to read the writing assignments she assigns, I think we can assume it's possible for her to provide feedback to the students.
