For me the end was 2009 and the complete aero advantage Brawn had. Then followed up by a bunch of years of Red Bull overtly obvious unfair aero advantages. Is this a driving competition or an engineering one, because I feel like we don’t know who the best driver has been in F1 since Michael Schumacher.

This. Might as well add red shells and bananas. All the rest of this is crying that the last break in a season full of crazy luck and officiating mistakes didn’t go the way some people wanted it to.

i agree f1 is not a sport since mercedes made their spec sheet accepted by the FIA the base for every other team

So it was a band-aid for an engineering problem.

Which is exactly why it sucks.

I figured it would be red flagged since it was so close to the end of the race. Finishing under yellow would’ve sucked but it wouldn’t have been any worse than whatever the fuck Belgium was.

I don’t think F1 can call itself a sport in the 21st century if drivers can still easily buy their way into the world championship.

F1 hasn’t been a sport since DRS was added.

Lauda was ruthless, but fair. He commanded a lot of respect on the grid.

Doesn’t help. Ha.

This. Max applied the brakes. That’s a brake check, and he took off. Douche moves all the way.

All runoff area should be gravel with enough area to safely slow a car prior to hitting an absorbing wall.

Indycar tracks don’t have near the runoff F1 does, and grass seems to slow the cars just fine. Would astroturf work as a deterrent or do they need to just cut DRS for the next lap on any car that cuts through the runoff?

True. I’ve heard it proposed that simply disable DRS for the next zone if a driver is told to be let through.

Ha ha ha ha. Verstappen was playing dirty long before Silverstone, it’s just that he came off worse at Silverstone. Sucks when shit backfires on you, don’t it?

They need more gravel traps and grass in F1, and actually penalize drivers who cut the track. When Indycar and NASCAR went to COTA, they had a field day with the runoffs and went feet off the racing line.

As I was watching this race my nerd brain concluded Max is Anakin Skywalker. An immensely gifted driver whose hotheadedness and sense of being owed success seems to undermine him at critical moments, made worse by a confused and misguided FIA, while being mentored by two of the most egotistical, ruthless men to ever

As long as drivers will use the runoffs to keep or gain positions the stewards will have to hand out penalties.

yeah i’m not gonna be real scared of 200 HP when there are prior vehicles I owned with 50% more power than this. Try a POS Chevy Cobalt SS Turbo with 300whp. Not even that could pull the wheel out of my hand.

They do not. Canadian Civics do, but US got shafted out of heated seats. One of the reasons I’ll be doing a GR86 instead of the Civic.

It hard to compete against the GTI which has: a hatchback which is far superior for putting stuff in, more power (and potential for more power than the 1.5t), and arguably a better aftermarket for performance parts. Debatable which car handles better until I see a side by side comparison.
