“The 2 Series Gran Coupe does not have any of the hallmarks of a truly great BMW. It isn’t like the 2 Series Coupe that everyone loves so much. It’s not rear-wheel drive. It’s all-wheel drive, but the platform is derived from the front-drive Mini family. It does not have an inline-six engine. It does not offer a

Very true.

I respect your post, but some things are a matter of opinion. Especially for people that enjoy full involvement and have emotional attachments/interaction with their cars. EVs in that respect can be somewhat sterile. It also depends on what the primary use of the vehicle is. Commuter traffic/rush hour? Hands down an

Focusing on lightweight materials would be nice for a change, to offset the 5000 lb curb weight of most (non sedan) EVs, which seem to be sprouting up like weeds these days.

still 1-2 decades away really.  anyone that thinks its less than 10 years hasn’t done any research.

Great post, only thing I think you’re forgetting is that in your comment #1, is that automakers are still losing money on the EVs they sell.  Nobody turns a profit from selling EVs, not even Tesla.  So while EV prices have come down, they’re still artificially low and it will take a lot for them to be affordable AND

Sure, but a RWD Mach E weighs an additional 1000 lb (4700 lb) and the AWD one is just over 5000 lb.  That’s not peanuts.

That’s why plug-in hybrids, or EVs in general, will never catch on with mainstream until we’ve advanced battery tech far beyond where it is today.

Only after we’ve had a leap forward in battery technology. Smaller, lighter batteries with longer range, less charge time that require fewer precious metals and material mining. Oh, and are a lot cheaper.  Anyone that thinks 4000-5000 lb $50k cars with 200-300 mile ranges are the future, or will be mainstream, is

All i see here is a disguised Audi.  How special...

Hasn’t the DBX been camouflage free and for sale for months at this point?

Not with Lithium batteries they’re not.

And it’ll only weigh 500+ lb more than the lesser models...

Sucks :-(

According to Ford the RWD model is 4600-4700 lb, and the AWD version is just over 5000 lb.

It’s really not “a lot” though if you add it all up.

I didn’t, but if you wanna brag about a car doing the driving for ya...okay.

Hah, didn’t even notice the date. And for it’s time it was a great handling car.

I mean I’ll admit, I do get the occasional satisfaction from ripping an audibly pleasing fart. It’s just unfortunate to hear something similar coming from an rpm redline handicapped multimillion dollar V6.

I’m gonna guess 4500 lb for the RWD model.  More for the AWD one.
