912 was created SPECIFICALLY to fill the void between the 356 and it’s successor, the 911, because the 911 was way way way more expensive than the 356.  The Cayman/Boxster were given 4 cylinder engines to separate them from the 911.  The motives were entirely different.

Hopefully this means that 981 GTS prices will plummet, so I can snatch one when my 987S gets too old.

Just the engine was replaced twice, or engine and transmission?  If the transmission is still original, that’s the most impressive part of this story IMO.

i said nothing about sound (not that I’d disagree there).

I think it’s pretty funny how hard some people try to compare global warming to all sorts of things.

Toyota would have very obvious applications for an in house developed I6. They’re called every RWD Lexus sedan they build.

I mean, just about everyone has known Toyota is full of sh*t.

That nobody is developing inline 6's anymore
That the new BMW Z4 is 300lb lighter than the last gen (it’s like 50 lb)
That most Porsche sports car models are not available with a manual transmission (it’s absurd that he’s this unaware of one of the Supra’s supposed biggest competitors)

I was more talking about the parameters of the car itself, which a company like Toyota or Honda could easily do for far less money than Porsche. If you thought I was saying that Toyota should be able to build a current gen Cayman clone for $30k, I wasn’t.

It was more comfortable than my S2000 or my Cayman.  Though that’s not saying much, hahaha.  Still, I’ve driven both the Cayman and S2000 for 10 hours at a time and been fine.

Oh sorry, I wasn’t suggesting that they look elsewhere for an inline 6. Rather I was arguing that Toyota developing their own inline 6 for Supra & Lexus use is far from an outlandish thought.

I won’t totally disagree, but the inline 6 comment from Tada is crap.  Mercedes just developed a new one, Jaguar and Land Rover are as well, and it looks like Aston Martin is also developing a new inline 6.  Given that the Supra’s inline 6 could be shared with various Lexus models (just like in the past) makes that

I bought my car 5 1/2 years ago with 56,000 on the odometer. Currently sitting at 108,000 miles. It’s a 2006 model year. Been very reliable IMO. Have replaced front rotors/pads twice, rear rotors/pads once (they lasted 100k). Rear tires last 15-20k miles, fronts 30-35k. This includes driving on track. My Cayman has

Yup! And let’s not forget the minor amount of 981's sold.

Excellent post, agree with everything except the BRZ height issue.  I’m 6'2" and found my BRZ to have way more leg room than I’d ever need.

Relatively lightweight, naturally aspirated engine, manual transmission and hydraulic power steering?  Actually that sounds like exactly what Toyota should have gone for.

What’s especially hilarious is Tada (and Toyota) thinking that this car will be able to hang with a Cayman.

I love this lame excuse. It’s the same thing with a potential turbo BRZ. The naysayers say that people will still complain. Bullshit, most of them won’t. Them being people that ACTUALLY buy the car.

except Tada has been quoted repeatedly say 100% false statements that can be verified in 10 seconds on the internet.
