I believe the 986 was Porsche’s best selling model for a while. The 987 sold very well also, at least until the 2008 recession.

There really isn’t that much price creep though. You can still buy a new 718S for less than $65k. A 987S 12 years ago was $10k less.
Amen, that’s what I’d be looking for it if I had $50-70k to spend on a new(ish) sports cars. To hell with 4 cylinders.
No manual option...
I mean, sure? But are you really a sports car company when you give up selling mostly sports cars? It’s like selling your soul and doing something you hate, to still be able to do something you love a little bit of the time, instead of all the time.
So basically, without the F-150 cash cow, Ford is a mess. Sounds like they’ve been fucking up for a while then, and just glossing over it with truck profits.
I 100% believe you, not him. Tada has spouted off countless statements about this car during its development that make absolutely no sense or are obviously false.
And again I say, sure okay? But it’s competitors do all that AND make considerably more power.
Well done David, love this article! Thanks for digging in.
True, I suppose I shouldn’t have been so general.
Well sure, but the designers could just be less lazy and find another way to make the cars not look dull.
THat’s good to know. However, good luck making the rear door vents functional...not a chance.
“But is there a car with more?”
Get rid of the wings altogether. Any aero that disrupts air for other cars, toss it. I want to see passing, and driver dependent talent dominating the cars (not the other way around).
Yeah, and 20 years later look at all the other sports car peers that have managed to do everything you just stated, and make more power. Wow, amazing stuff eh?
Doesn’t really make sense; just sounds like a huge cop out. They’re trying to tell us that 20+ years later a 3.0 liter turbo engine can barely handle more power while maintaining reliability? Wow, talk about progress...
Toyota should have named the car The Phantom Menace. Years of teasing and waiting and they give us Jar Jar Binks.
Yes, I understand that I should drive it before being overly harsh. But I won’t buy a car with an automatic, so really...pointless for me.
I drive a Cayman, so I know all about how a car can be more than the sum of it’s numbers. But the car basically weighs the same, and is slightly more powerful than a Supra from 20 years ago. Yes, no doubt it’ll slay it in every performance category - but this is the best Toyota can do when they team up with another…
And someone like myself doesn’t really care what the 0-60 time is once it’s below mid 5 seconds. I’d much rather have fun shifting my own gears than just pushing down the gas pedal for 4 seconds of thrills.
