Radios and sat phones are already standard equipment on mountains like Rainier. This device is interesting, but it just seems to be a less reliable way of accomplishing the same thing you can do with a radio or sat phone. Also, when you get above 13,000' or are hanging out in the crater, let me know how excited you

Nah, just giant ravens.

That makes sense. I was doing a rough calculation off my surely much slower software RAID6 with consumer-level drives.

Ahh, very interesting. Thanks for this info Ian Case! My knowledge of such things is fairly limited—I run a Linux box with 7 drives in software RAID6 so I'm always curious how it's done on a larger scale.

Yea, I suppose independent volumes in JBOD and Netflix just ships a replacement when one fails. Or the site replaces the drive and Netflix just pushes an update to it. If they're already pushing daily 7TB upgrades, what's another 4-6 TB?

I'm curious how the storage is partitioned across all those drives. One giant multi-level array? Several individual RAID6 arrays?

I wonder if they count the "bike lanes" where 3 feet next to the curb are sectioned off with a white line—the three feet constantly full of gravel, potholes, and "repaired" potholes.

Step aside with your logic! ComEd should ignore this clearly less important business of powering the city and instead focus on fighting crime!

Effectively.

I'm primarily a cyclist and I'm with you on this. I treat a stop sign as a yield sign so it works like this:

14 years and 3 console generations later, it's still sold new on Amazon for $14. As someone who invested in 3 copies 8 years ago, this annoys me.

Yea, it's more like a boat. But it does have a mesh floor so you can have your feet in the water!

Easy... I'm not looking for a fight. And the fact that I called that vague "girl" "whiny" is because the person I was responding to, caught1, referred to her as "some whiny girl."

Er... yes. I tend to use the two interchangeably for pretty much anyone under 40 (and that will probably increase as I approach 40). But I can see how that comment would come off as odd without knowledge of this...

Yea, you'd hope most women would have figured out that weight training is a good thing, but I don't think we're there yet. I do think we've at least started to move away from super-skinny being the ideal body shape for a woman (or at least I hope so).

As a guy who has done CrossFit for a few years (note: I have no interest in debating the merits of CrossFit, so let's not go there), this is the number one concern I get from girls asking if they should try it. I try to explain to them that to get legitimately "bulky" requires tons of heavy lifting, eating tons of

I was wondering the same thing. I imagine that's the first thing I'd do if I got in that ring.

Psh, Kenny Powers tried to jump a distance of a mile. It also didn't go as planned.
