Most of what we learned about Columbine was wrong. It wasn't about bullying. It wasn't about revenge against jocks. There was no Trenchcoat Mafia. All of that was a lot of bullshit perpetuated by a lazy media. These boys were not alienated loners. They had friends. They both went to the prom. Eric Harris was a

JESUS DIES

I was talking about this with my students the other day. I'm from the UK and while people in Britain can be just as materialistic and money-driven as anyone else, I had never encountered anything like the loathing of poverty driven by fear and paranoia before I came to America.

May I please use this opportunity to re-open the Salted Vs. Unsalted butter wars? I feel like we as a commentariat haven't fought over that in a while, and we probably should.

Yes. I am aware. We get it. At no point in this post do I imply that creating a spectrum of sizes wouldn't involve hiring plus size fit models and taking proportion into consideration.

I thought those theories are pretty hotly disputed because in the 1850s men were allowed to have personal relationships with each other that were emotionally close without people assuming they were gay. I'm pretty sure the gay theories have only come up because modern folks read these very heartfelt personal letters

This is scary, but - to be fair -she didn't lose a job offer because she asked for a raise. She lost a job offer after asking for a raise and 4 other perks. I don't think it was the raise ask that made the college think she wasn't a right fit for the culture.

Ummm...I would have thought that the show was more critical of the way in which the poor are disenfranchised. The missing women and children could be written off with "report filed in error" by those who orchestrated the cover-up, and their loved ones didn't have the juice to push matters. The whole cult was based

I think that Rust Cohle would argue the poor, uneducated, fat, dirty, smelly, racist sister-fuckers are just the ones that get caught. The rich, clean, educated and powerful people who benefit from the chaos get away with it. But as Marty says, that's the kind of world we live in, and you catch the ones you can.

Right but is light at 6am more important than light at 6pm, now that we aren't a largely agricultural society?

I like the later sunlight that DST brings, but I just don't understand why we need STANDARD time anymore. Why can't we just spring forward one last time and then stop jacking with the clock forever?

Nope. Spring forward is the BEST. MOAR SUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can we stop for a second and discuss how absolutely stupid it is that instead of trying to make a job market for non-college grads, we now try to cram everyone, regardless of ability or desire, into a college degree?

I'm going to go against the grain a bit and start the JLaw-backlash-backlash. I don't think she's faking it at all, I think she's genuinely kind of clumsy and silly and on the subject of things being silly I think it's kind of silly that we as a society of tv-watching people tolerated a famous person being down to

Yup. It's the privilege, not a right, bullshit that has us in this mess. Plus, people are so stupid as not to be able to count. Were we to go all universal care, care would be LESS expensive for everyone, as opposed to more. But, you know, can't let those poor people get good healthcare! That would be crazytown! They

Well, the incumbent President of the United States is a semi-permanently drunk murderer who spends most of his time stalking, home invading and kidnapping his mistress (you know, the woman he drunkenly tried to rape in an elevator). Sally Langston's never been more qualified for this White House. :(

No, you've got it backwards. Prices are as high as possible - if the airline could get away with making more money by raising prices, they would. It's not like the airline has any vested interest in making sure we don't have to pay much to fly. The prices are at the point of maximum profit, that's all.
