My was doing a photo-shoot for a French mag a couple of weeks ago about some top chef in the country. And not a single woman in the panel of 6 chefs. It's frustrating. The message is women be in the kitchen as long as is for free.

Ironing is the chore of Satan.

And cooking is only a women's work as long as there are not paid for doing it. When there is a paid for it somehow it becomes a battle to have women chefs.

Assuming that all other chores are equal, sure. I imagine going at it with the tone shown in this comment won't be particularly productive. But telling her that while you feel the inside-house chores are split 50/50, the outside ones always seem to fall to you, and you'd like to see if there are any that she wants

Exactly. Same goes for dishes in the dishwasher. I loathe putting them away so much, that I simply wash everything by hand on the sink. (I'm a pragmatist, not a simplist.)

Yes. The thing that makes me crazy is the idea that a standard of cleanliness is gendered. My friend's fiance told her that the house could never, ever, ever get so filthy that he would feel compelled to clean. My SO cleans a ton, but it would never, ever occur to him to clean the cabinets or baseboards. It's not like

My mom is physically disabled. Moreso these days, true, but even when I was a kid, she struggled to get up the stairs, walk, etc. I had to help out a lot around the house, simply because Mom couldn't do it. Dad, who worked physical labour and heavy machinery right up until he was 65, would help out with chores on the

If this is indeed the case, folks, I'm sorry to report you that you shall soon bow down to my daughter, empress of the universe.

How is it co-opting if they used the word first?

I was a club kid in the late 80's/ early 90's, and went to lots of the same parties as RuPaul, LaHoma Van Zandt, Lady Bunny, Larry Tee, Michael Alig (yes, THAT one), and no one ever used "tranny" or "she-male" as a slur/hate speech... I think it is a generational thing. I remember where there were silly contests (like

Yeah, as a FAMOUS gay man who dresses like a woman for a living (and who is black, btw) - he has NO worries about someone beating him or killing him, while shouting that word and for who he is. He could not possibly understand what is like to be different. Btw- I'm being sarcastic.

What about the persistent and damaging myths this sort of thing propagates though?

In the news: Drunk person vomits.

"...stop using inane spellings..." "STAHP."

To continue with that analogy - the Tea Party proper managed to convince many more-moderate Conservatives to support TP candidates over incumbent Republicans, despite being a fringe minority in terms of their beliefs. Fringe extremist groups may not represent the views of the majority in a given issue, but they act

Yup. For one student, images of rape might trigger PTSD, but for another, it might be war, and for a third, car accidents. And besides PTSD, there are people who have severe phobias. There's a huge spectrum of possible triggers out there.

I watched my little sister get eaten by a family of bears, you bastard.

No. I'm not going to change my reading list to address your special needs, because I have another student who was in the Iraq war, and has different triggers, and another student who has an eating disorder and has different triggers. I have over 100 students. I cannot be guardian for all of their mental health

I think all the Social Justice Warriors are extremely tiring. I tend to be very careful with language and I'm mortified if I offend people unintentionally. However, I can't and won't police everything I say. I'm with you— I get that for certain topics such as rape, sexual abuse, neglect and other very sensitive
