I hate to generalize, but I’m going to. I suspect that, like most selfish abusers, he cares nothing for the lives of others, but cares a great deal about his own life and potential suffering. His pain, and only his pain, is real to him. The suicide was probably an act meant to illicit sympathy IMHO.

It’s happened far too many times. It’s a phenomena I fail to comprehend. Who looks at a convicted serial killer, rapist, wife-murderer, etc., and says “Gee, that man looks like marriage material to me, girl!”
