I may have missed it, but given that this will be an OTA update offered after you buy the car am I to assume this will be an extra purchase option as well? I have to assume Tesla has taught other automakers how to rake in the dough after the sale, but I still hold out hope.

Back in college, in 1991, I put a deposit on a yellow/black ‘86 IROC-Z28 that was sold out from under me. Pissed me off but I then found a black/red ‘86 IROC at another dealer with T-Tops for about the same coin.

“...Volkswagen’s new army of software engineers has so far failed to establish a robust link between the car and the company’s cloud-based applications that it has been developing with Microsoft Corp.”

Memory is a funny thing. I think I wanted auto stick so bad but you’re right it wasn’t offered in the Breeze. I eventually did have a car with auto stick but it was obviously a few years later in the next car.

Yeah the big question is where to draw a line. It might also require a different tier of police force. Like let tier 1 always deal with the thefts and the like and issue a ticket but if they deem necessary then bring in tier 2 and arrest. But I think the main idea is to not have the more “hardened” cops have to deal

Yes that stigma that results from investigations has become a deterrent that, for the most part, works to keep a lot of people from doing crimes I would presume.

Good point. I looked and in my area the starting salary appears to be like $26K which, yeah, not enough for the responsibilities put on them.

It is a tough call in terms of where do you draw the line. To your point, if I consider a “non-violent” crime to be one in which a person steals a bottle of vodka from a store and simply give them their ticket with a court-date (assuming that person even sticks around long enough to be given this) then they drink up

Nice! I did have Autostick in mine if I remember correctly.

Agree with you on the drivetrain although mine was reliable. And for a 2.4L in the late 90's I was actually impressed with acceleration.

Well that is a good point in terms of some of the more harmful but not quite violent crimes. Obviously anything where a kid is involved should be an arrest. Thresholds would have to be put in place, of course.

I have been thinking about this a lot and am wondering out loud: What if we stopped arrests for non-violent crimes, like altogether? Just have the cops come and give you a ticket for your court date and that’s that. No arrest. No going to jail or bail or anything but it’s on you to show up or then maybe a warrant is

I am obviously new to this idea as this past week is the first I have heard of it, so I am admittedly confused as hell. No joke, my first thought was “no more speeding tickets?” but I suppose the idea is that you’ll have highway patrol officers just do that only. Then you might have domestic violence “handlers” who

Not sure where you got that I was a cop. Maybe take some reading comprehension classes. I was simply stating that I don’t know what I would do in that situation personally and I am not aware of what kind of training police get. I would assume it is to not do what they did though.

Now playing

Proper handling of this situation as documented in Police Academy:

Oh I watched it. I was actually speculating what I would do if my car was surrounded or I felt threatened. In no way was I trying to say they had any reason to do what they did.

That is why we’ve given them qualified immunity.

I don’t know what kind of police training is given for situations like this but I know if I were in a car being taken over by people I honestly wouldn’t know what else to do but ram my way out.

Here we go again with the lesser of two evils being the best choice for president. Only exception in my lifetime was Obama. Oh and full disclosure, I am white.
