The first few seasons of DS9, where they tried to keep it a “Trek” science/discovery type of show were it’s weakest and lowest rated. It wasn’t until they really went wholesale into lifting B5's political intrigue as a driving motivator that the series really took off. DS9 totally owes it’s success to B5.
