On Boxer engines (Subaru in particular) spark plug jobs can be a real bear. I learned that spending 60 seconds under the car loosening the motor mount nuts and the trans crossmember nuts and then lifting the engine even an inch or 2 with a jack immensely improves access to the spark plugs.
