In fact, The MMQB learned Thursday night that Kelly [wanted me to report that he] never offered the widely rumored packages of either three first-round picks or two first-round picks and Sam Bradford, in an attempt to obtain the second pick of the draft.

This post is brilliant. Thank you. Happy Friday!

Then don’t worry about it, bro. Nothing hurt on your end!

And there it is... see what you don’t realize is I’m actually on your side, but you guys are so quick to attack that it’s pointless to comment. It’s unfortunate that you can’t see what I had written prior to the edit. This particular blog seems to cannibalize itself out of its own anger.

*edited* Nah, not worth it, sometimes I forget that even when I’m on your side I’ll be the villain with a wang chung.

You probably don’t have to listen too closely to the Orioles’ broadcast to hear Hawk screaming like a child in the background. If anyone produces or links to a clip of this, you will have made my day.

How long before the Dallas Cowboys move to Rikers Island or vice versa?

No one’s arguing it’s not in the tax code, we’re discussing the bullshit that allowed football to be specifically codified. Because it’s fun to play with bullshit!

Dude you have no idea what you’re talking about. You can’t just “pass” revenues to another company. It only works in this case because they have that status. If the NFL is simply providing a service to collect then pass them on, they technically are required to be paid for that. Which means the NFL should have revenue

Fuck this guy.

Sorry I don’t have a clever joke here. Ray Lewis’ existence stole it from me.

Yes I know this, I have audited numerous not-for-profit entities. It’s basically a big middle finger to the public when an organization like the NFL (vs. a school or arts organization) gets this kind of status.

You’re right. They do not have to be charitable, but usually they need to pretend to serve some purpose that relates to “collective good.” You can’t just sell iPads (or say entertainment) and say you’re a not-for-profit entity because you lack shareholder financing.

I’ll refer you to my example about other businesses who bonus out all their income to avoid corporate taxes. It’s the same thing here - accounting manipulation. You’re just passing the revenue earned by the NFL in reality to the teams on paper. Why wouldn’t a marketing wing of another company have to pay taxes as a

It’s unbelievable what we put up with as citizens. Good talk man.

That headline should have been directed to the NFL, not Drew Magary.

Universities are legitimately institutions that justify non-profit treatment. Unfortunately as long as humanity exists there will be corruption.

My point was simply that legally, non-profits are allowed to run side businesses for revenue, but if it is “unrelated business income” they still have to pay taxes. In both of

Right but just because they are a cost center doesn’t mean they should be tax exempt. I mean I’ve worked for companies that have entities created simply to report executive compensation and expenses. That doesn’t mean they’re tax exempt since they generate zero revenue.

The bullshit part is that it exists, not his explanation.

I did not get the impression of anger at any point in his response.
