Holy shit, that’s a pretty extreme leap.
Fandom killed Giant Bomb, fuck them.
Definitely. I feel like people think of Unreal as the red-headed stepchild of Quake but honestly it’s been insanely influential in its own right.
I don’t actually mind Fortnite as a game/cultural Thing, but I’ll always resent it for being the reason Epic cancelled UT 2018
Thankfully I used to keep all my PC games in a disc binder so I don’t have those taking up too much space.
I FEEL THAT IN MY BONES.
You’re absolutely right, in comparing Dota to LoL one of the biggest tradeoffs is stability. Like you said, DPC is incredibly cutthroat and most players don’t really have a “safety net” to fall back on if they have a rough season.
Old PC component boxes really are a sickness... pretty sure I still have the box from my 8800 GT sitting around somewhere.
And this is exactly why “artificial esports,” games that are developed from the ground-up to be a marketing vehicle for themselves with professional leagues controlled by the developer, are a terrible idea. As if OWL hasn’t proven it enough times already.
Yup! I’ve heard from friends in the scene that groups will even have 1 person who isn’t actually affiliated with them (so basically a fall guy) look at the code and then describe how it works to another person who then writes the new code.
I’m pretty much always on the side of defending emulation, but that tweet does bring up a very damning point. As far as I’m aware, a lot of the biggest emulation groups over the years have tried very hard to decompile the source code and write their own from scratch for precisely this reason. It’s part of why…
Man, you’re really not wrong. I really want to love Infinite, there’s the bones of a great Halo buried somewhere in there but it just feels soulless.
Seems beautiful, but I just... have no interest in that style of shooter. It was the same way with Destiny for me - gorgeous art, cool lore, amazing feeling gunplay but everything else around it just doesn’t click for me.
In theory you absolutely can, but the latency would very likely make most games unplayable.
I... don’t actually see how that’d be possible, because you’d have to then somehow tunnel from a public wifi network to your own. Or go through Sony’s servers, which would add even more latency. The options are:
As a primarily PC player, I don’t really have any issue with that. Unlike Microsoft they don’t have much of an incentive to actually *grow* the PC space, makes sense that it’s not their main focus.
Absolutely wild surprise, really pumped for this!
I love the art style as a whole and totally get that they’re going for the whole Studio Ghibli pastel vibe, but honestly agreed. Something about the colors always seemed off to me, like my TV isn’t calibrated properly or something.
2070 Super gang! Bought it shortly before the pandemic and enjoyed some nice schadenfreude at the expense of all my friends who laughed at me for not just waiting for the 3000 series.
