I was frustrated by the same thing. Fortunately, I conspired with another commenter and managed to create this userscript: [userscripts.org] which disables all of the key bindings on Gawker sites. Feel free to reply back to me if want more help. :)

Heh, it's a pity indeed they didn't include the modifier keys. I use those out the wazoo. :)

Hey everyone, hope your weekend's going well so far!

Has anyone figured out the best way to get your comment notifications via email, rss, or even twitter?

Is anyone else having a ridiculously long wait time at the 'Soluto - checking' stage of the installation?

I agree with kschang - Google Reader is an excellent starting point for an RSS reader. I actually still use it, since I prefer a webapp to a desktop solution.

Personally, I prefer to use keyword searches over the search box (in fact, I've gotten rid of the search box!). I use ctrl+l so often that it's simple to do a specific search with g, yt, etc.

Same in FF, unfortunately. Yay, flash. -,-

V-moda ([www.v-moda.com] has some excellent pairs, and heavy-duty ones at that. I've had my pair for over a year now, when I tended to go through earbuds every two months or so.

@kthe23rd: Much of the instability may have been based in the fbchat plugin - but since it's kinda necessary for me to use, it's still an issue.

@Totenglocke42: Yes, I'm with you, albeit to Digsby instead of AIM.

Anyone happen across a good method for getting notifications, via email or rss, for your comment replies here?

Absolutely. This is the most helpful for the less tech-savvy, I think - most don't understand keyboard shortcuts, but clicking with a different button is much easier. I definitely use this all the time, though. :)

Has pidgin become more stable as of late, or added facebook chat abilities? Most of my chatting is on gchat and fbchat nowadays, so that's kind of a deal breaker.

Aha! Got it! Turns out we needed an additional unsafeWindow. on the beginning. The final script is as follows:

Scratch that, just checked the JS error console - it's not liking jQuery, probably a question of import?

I'm essentially trying to eliminate the j/k key bindings, yes. The javascript does work from the address bar, as you said. I'm experimenting with different versions of the code for greasemonkey - I suspect it might have something to do with 'document', perhaps because it's running from within the script, not the

That would be lovely, thanks. :)
