Those two would be fantastic… as would J. Michael Strazynski, who I believe is on record as saying he had an idea for an arc. And, given his success with Babylon 5, that’d be something to watch.

It felt like it basically *was* Dutch from The Shield, minus copyright approval, and I loved it. Only thing missing was CCH Pounder.

Voyage of the Damned and Smile are good examples of similar types, and they were both very well executed. I didn’t have a problem with the message, but yeah, it was overstuffed.

Based on how good Spyfall was, and how fun the Tesla episode is, I’m guessing this one suffered from being one the writers’ room couldn’t

I’ve been an AV commenter, under this username, for several years, and I get shunted into the grays every single time, and this brand-new TERF commenter gets approved? Thanks, AV Club Moderation. Thanks a lot.

Trans women are women.

I agree with this review. I can’t help but note that Miller’s two strongest books, LIVE FROM NEW YORK and THESE GUYS HAVE ALL THE FUN, had Tom Shales as co-writer. I’m now wondering if Shales was the Marc Caro to his Jean-Pierre Jeunet — the creative partner who held everything together.

I think the book had way too

Also THE GOOD PLACE creator Mike Schur and UPLOAD creator Greg Daniels are really good friends, so it’s likely Daniels was influenced by Schur, but I would not be surprised at all if Schur helped him out in the development stage. That specific complaint is like complaining that Spike Jonze’s HER feels like Charlie

For me, the original film version of West Side Story falls into the same category as the original Ocean’s 11 — not good enough to worry about, and therefore 100% fair game for a remake. The musical’s brilliant, and the movie just doesn’t do it justice — beyond the whitewashing, there’s a grating phoniness to it. (I’m

Succession was ineligible; season 2 aired in 2019 and was nominated last year, and season 3 hasn’t dropped yet.

What’s wrong, son?
I wanna drink goat’s blood!
But son! It’s only Tuesday!

(deep cut, folks. Deleted scene.)

He’s gotten better. His most recent novel THE INSTITUTE has an extremely satisfying ending, and 11/22/63 really stuck the landing, IMO.

This feels like you took a pre-existing slideshow of old HBO shows (plus Euphoria) and added in a few random shows on HBO Max. No Doom Patrol? No Doctor Who? No Lovecraft Country? No I’ll Be Gone in the Dark? No I May Destroy You? John from Cincinnati is not better than those shows. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a

Ooh, I missed that! “Georgia Lass” on DLM, “Georgia Madchen” on Hannibal, with Madchen being German for girl.

For the record, Danny the gender-nonbinary Street is Episode 8!

OH YES. “Heaven Sent” manages to be a classic, and people haven’t discovered it yet because season 8 (season before), while good, I think burned people out on Moffatt.

And then Season 9 is fantastic. And THEN you get to “Heaven Sent,” which is one of the 3 best NuWho episodes of all time (Blink, Turn Left.)

I’ve enjoyed most of Kevin Smith’s movies, and I don’t have a problem with this review, except for the part where it suggests he hasn’t challenged himself as an artist recently. TUSK was Smith’s first attempt at straight-up horror and, whether he succeeded or not, he definitely pushed himself outside of his comfort

Having seen four episodes: EVIL is really good. The AV Club should be recapping it. FRINGE season 1, but for horror, with a bit of The Exorcist thrown in there, is an elegant summation. One is reminded that the Kings didn’t just do THE GOOD WIFE & THE GOOD FIGHT, but also the brilliant one-season BRAINDEAD.

MAKE PURCHASE OF THE MERCHANDISE

Her TV experience is writing/*producing,* at a high level. REIGN is at least as good a TV series as THE PROPOSAL (one of Ciarelli’s credits) was a movie, and LIFE ON MARS is at least as good as NOW YOU SEE ME 2. (I’m not claiming any of them are *good,* just that you can’t discount her work but somehow magically keep

Better than It, Part 1: Shawshank Redemption, Stand By Me, Misery, Castle Rock, Dolores Claiborne.
Equal to It, Part 1: Carrie (1976), Pet Sematary (1989, Mary Lambert), The Dark Half, Gerald’s Game, It (TV, 1990.)
Equal but not as strong source material: 1408, The Green Mile.

Might Be a Contender (haven’t seen yet):

Are people just completely forgetting about RED STATE? I haven’t seen a comparative director take such a massive, potentially audience-alienating risk with a project in a long time. Same with TUSK. Also, he did an excellent job directing the pilot of “Reaper.”
