That is a good point. By the time you add basic shit like power windows, a roof, automatic transmission to the Wrangler Unlimited, you’re looking at $35k.

Also TRD Pro 4Runner is as-expensive as top-line loaded out Wrangler. You can’t spec a 4runner of any trim to $30k like you can with Wrangler.

Makes me think FX4 package equivalent.

Hahaha, when it’s me vs them, or my fams vs the world, I’ll be a dick all day long. And yes it would make me smart, doesn’t matter to me if I’m a smart dick.

For the class of vehicle. You can get subcompacts with top safety pick ratings.

People care about other things in the FCA lineup?

#dontmess

People can already do that with rental agencies. But the car doesn’t just show up at your doorstep... and renting an SUV is usually pretty expensive.

But premium gas was cheap back then. :)

Yeah. There will always be pickup trucks. Literally millions of these are sold to people who will never use the bed for anything more than groceries. Pickup trucks and SUVs are a way of life regardless of who’s driving.

There will always be the poors.

De-incentivize large cars by making them self-immolate? Damn, bruh.

Unless they’ve purchased a vehicle simply as a personal courier, ostensibly they’ll still want to ride in this vehicle themselves from time to time. And then the “just in case” thing is still a thing.

That’s what a Chevy Equinox or Honda CRV is.

Haven’t thought of that! Once you take the driving experience away, there’s only so much room for self-expression and pleasure.

There is an inherent machismo to 4WD SUVs unless you’re talking about something like a Volvo.

Agreed. But you’re undercutting the safety aspect of the SUV vs a van. A minivan is really just a tall car, whereas an SUV (well, a real SUV) sits higher, carries its passengers high above the frame, has more weight and heft in general.

In spite of cheaper alternatives, people spend more money for something bigger.

If I was buying an autonomous car for my family, I would buy an autonomous SUV. No way I’m sending my kids off in some self-driving tin can.

Yeah no doubt writer is demuro style deducting all of this as some sort of business expense.
