But they sell enough Vettes for it to be a big moneymaker and the image enhances their brand regardless. They don’t have to pull market share to do that.

How so? Things have been discontinued for various reasons, but the most recent one to bite the dust ran unchanged for 17 years. Xterra died of old age. FJ cruiser died so Toyota could sell you a more expensive 4runner.
Have you gotten inside one lately? Jeep has done their best to spruce it up, but it’s incredibly cheap feeling. And that feeling is pretty ubiquitous among their lineup, together with the terrible Jeep/Chrysler reliability in general. Swap out Mopar/FiatChrysler and swap in Ford and it would be a much nicer vehicle.
