There will be 10 new or refreshed models in the Nissan lineup by 2020,

Ah yes, the faithful old “whataboutitis” card.

You being willing to accept ugly vehicles for their novelty doesn't mean we are wrong not to. Car design has clearly changed and evolved over time with plenty of revolutionary designs that were beautiful. This thing is needlessly hideous and I'm not going to be future shamed out of saying so

Yes, all of this

I own and have ridden a few motorcycles. I know what strong acceleration feels like.

Right, I get that and more power to them. This is good marketing and in line with their goals. The question I’m asking is why I need 1000HP out of anything.

2 thoughts.

1st gear- I think GM/VW’s attitude on EVs is a bit desperate and insincere. They are pushing hard to the point that it almost doesn’t make sense.

OK Toyota. Now you put this powertrain into a Camry. Or even better, a Corolla. Simulate shifts like you do in the new Lexus hybrids and usher in a new era of performance cars.

Ford is a big, rich, connected company. If substance abuse is a priority for them they don’t have to wait for the UAW of all people to come to them with a program. And treating addiction after the fact doesn’t address the root of the problem.

5th gear- I have a new rule for evaluating the money a corporation spends on anything unprofitable. Add 3 zeros.

2nd gear- there are plenty of hybrids with batteries that don’t intrude on trunk space. The iD3 and Mach-E are definitely steps in the right direction. Now we wait and see what the market does.

The call of the Jalopnik hivemind is just too strong for some. Contrarians by consensus.

If Jalops weren’t complaining contrarians the comment boards here would be completely dead. Somehow reflexive hate and whining has become equivalent to insight and taste. No, you are not some kind of expert car connoisseur because you blindly hate all crossovers.

These companies wouldn’t and can’t deploy AVs all at once. Obviously they would build up the fleet from zero to whatever number is needed to match peak demand. And again they can incentivize ride sharing during those peaks to make the most of their fleet and not have to make and own an excessive number of AVs.

Public transit in its current state will never be congruent with suburban sprawl or rural areas. AV is definitely a way to make it viable.

Because Uber Pooling to work is not a viable option for me. Just today I had to leave work early for example. AVs could handle that much better than an Uber for a 35 mile trip.

I don’t see fares coming down that much. Uber takes like 35% of a fare on average. Then of what the driver keeps, there’s the cost of the car, fuel, insurance and maintenance. I think Uber/Lyft charge way too much for the service they provide to the driver, but even still, I don’t see fares going much lower than half
