You realize that has nothing to do with you not knowing how many players are playing on Gamepass? You’re moving goalposts far beyond where any statement was made.

You do realize that Microsoft paid Square for the subscription rights to the game, right? They don’t just get it on the platform for free, they had to pay. Yes, I’m not specifically giving Square any money, but Microsoft is, presumably from my subscription fees. 

It does, because they aren’t going to be counted in the steam numbers. You don’t know how many people are playing on Xbox PC. That’s the beginning and ending of the point I was making -- Steam numbers leave out anyone playing on Xbox PC.

Although if you buy into that the Xbox subscription gave the game new life, those players wouldn’t show up on Steam.

At this point, the hardest parts are some of the stupidest parts. Like the jumper pins for the start button. Why they’ve made everything else super easy, but the start button is still this poorly labeled thing that could theoretically go on any one of a dozen little pins is beyond me.
