Yeah. I got them because I don’t feel nearly as bad tearing them up hooning around on dry pavement as I would a set of Nokians, lol.

*angry eyes*
Nah, just studless winter tires. General Altimax Arctics, to be specific. They do alright. Good enough for ice racing on frozen Wisconsin lakes. Not as fast as the studded cars, obviously, but still fun.
Right? I mean, hammering around a track, no problem. But cruising on the highway with a few hundred pounds of added weight? DRIVETRAIN GON’ ESSPLODES!!!
Maybe... lol. I’ve never seen it affect engine temps, though. Even while hooning around in this configuration.
Haha, that was me. I used these same two photos in another article in here the other day :P
I don’t consider this “misuse,” but some people get SO triggered by the things I do with my BRZ.
“EHRMAGURD!!! YOUR CAR IS PROBABLY A RUST BUCKET NOW!!! RWD IS SO DANGEROUS IN THE SNOW!!!”
“EHRMAGURD!!! YOU CAN’T TOW THINGS WITH A BRZ. IT SAYS SO RIGHT IN THE OWNER’S MANUAL. BUY A FERD F-TEEN-THOUSAND!!!”
I’ve literally…
My experience is nothing like that. There will always be entitled assholes in any group, but the majority of the autocrossers I’ve met are pretty cool dudes.
That’s the sad truth, and it’s so frustrating. On the bright side, it makes my car all the more unique, since everyone else buys the same, cheap parts, lol. It’s a good thing I’m planning on keeping the car forever, because trying to sell good quality parts is pretty much impossible since the kids will just say,…
Chicagoland. Suburbs southwest of the city. Not too much done to it at the moment. KW V3 coilovers, Raceseng CasCam plates, Velox rear LCAs, Fujitsubo Authorize R Exhaust. AP Racing BBK. HRE 18x9 summer wheels, 949Racing 17x9 autocross wheels. A little odds and ends here and there in the interior and exterior.
Yeah, I keep looking to the Nokians too, but I’m wary of spending so much money on tires that spend most of their time on dry pavement... where I’m occasionally tempted to have a little “fun.” I feel much less bad about tearing up cheap Generals than I would expensive Nokians, lol.
It sure does. And to plow fresh snow while towing a 650 lb trailer, even!
Meh. If you bought a BRZ to drag race, you are not very intelligent, lol.
General Altimax Arctics :)
Randy Probst lapped Streets of Willow in the BRZ only 1 second slower than he did did in a V6 Mustang (the car the earlier commenter mentioned)... which comes with stickier tires, and a hell of a lot more power.
Surprisingly not. Which is kinda interesting because there are under-body panels too, so the whole nose of the car is sealed and air really only feeds to the radiator through the bumper opening. And yet I’ve done plenty of snow driving/hooning/ice racing/etc... where I discover afterwards that the front of the car was…
And judging by that photo, it literally drove past the building I work at!
Or a Mustang V6 trying to navigate a technical course :P
Other things that can make a BRZ feel fast: a good driver ;)
Bring on the snooooowwww!!! #snowplowlip
