If they’re sitting 1 foot away from the steering wheel...

I honestly can’t tell whether or not this is sarcasm.

I think the issue is that people treat cars differently than other things when it comes to this discussion, and I’m not sure why.

You don’t buy a 12-seat table for your kitchen because twice a year you host extended family for the holidays.

You don’t buy an 8-bedroom home because you occasionally have friends visit.

You

Are there any detailed photos of the headlamps? I’m actually most curious about that setup now. Those look insane.

Meanwhile I’m paying $130/mo to store my tire trailer off site because my HOA won’t allow anything other than “JUST THE CAR” in my parking spot, despite the fact that both my car and the trailer fit into the spot without any issues (better than the Suburbans and Escalades next to me)... in an underground parking

It isn’t equivalent. The handling is nowhere near on the same level. The chassis balance, feedback and “friendliness” isn’t anywhere near as nice. The WRX is a sedan that’s been given a buttload of power, and a stiff suspension. It’s fun. It’s awesome. It’s a completely different kind of car.

You seem to be under the impression that the only meaningful statistic for a car is how much power it has, and how quickly it accelerates. There are people (myself included) who would call the WRX, or even the STi, a downgrade from the BRZ.

I’m okay with this. I guess I get defensive when people say the current car sucks, and needs more power. Untrue. It is just meant for a specific group of people. Adding an additional trim level is fine, but I don’t want the cheap, low-power, RWD sports car segment to disappear again!

This is about how much power the BRZ needs before people will stop complaining.

That’s a reasonable response. As long as they keep the current version!

Touche, lol.

Yeah, I run 255s on mine currently. The question isn’t whether the rear end can handle it, but whether the OEM trusts the rear end to handle it for 100,000 miles. They consider a lot of stuff, including not only the added power, but the fact that people will be putting stickier tires on it, etc...

Also, when I switched

It’s not the engine that’s the issue. It’s everything else. Especially when you consider that this car is already “overweight” compared to something like the Miata, adding beefier bits to support the added power would just be continuing to head in the wrong direction.

If there ever is a “Generation 2" of this car, it

To be fair, I got my Series.Blue, Special Edition, fully loaded BRZ for $27,350 + TTL :)

Dealers that aren’t morons will sell them for under MSRP (which for my car, was $30,000.)

Those are exactly that: big, heavy muscle cars. It’s easy to throw power at a car when the only weight criteria is that it weigh at least 17 tons!

If you describe the BRZ as slow and uninspiring, then I suppose you’d also describe the Miata as slow and uninspiring?

The MazdaSpeed Miata only made 17x HP. That’s 30 less than the BRZ currently makes...

The reliability ratings took a hit due to the teething issues the vehicles had in the first year-or-so of production. Most of those issues were ironed out by the 2015 model year, and the 2017 refresh made lots of additional tweaks to fix the rest.

Remember this was an all-new platform. There will always be issues out

Neither the WRX, nor the STi are about light weight. Adding weight to a car that already isn’t about light weight doesn’t matter.
