Also worth noting there’s a bit of a difference between the two incidents mentioned. In the “Karen” one, the woman willingly scampers off the aircraft. In the earlier version, the young lady is stating that she is -not- going to go off the aircraft and continues the disturbance.

I think one thing I’ve definitely learned in the last few years of everyone immediately jumping to freak out is: wait until there’s more direct access to evidence.

The level of physical force here appears utterly unacceptable, but also we’re primarily learning about this now through other people’s articles and without

Epidemiologist don’t want you to know this one Tick Trick!

More so, slurs are defined by the people who are offended, not by the people using them happily. I think we can all come up with a lot of words that are extremely taboo now which were “not considered slurs” just a few decades ago. This is the slippery slope of language policing.

It’s interesting what things you can get cancelled for and what things just get you to the next multimillion dollar franchise.

That’s not how I read it.

Folks, much as I disagree with their decision impacts, the court is NOT THERE TO DECIDE IF WETLANDS SHOULD BE PROTECTED, only where the authority to do so lies given our government.

Sounds like it would be good to have as an “Also” but not as a primary. I can imagine a situation in which something needs editing on the go, but it’s hard to think of a time when I would not have a laptop available to do the same thing.

How accurate are flight simulators I wonder, and would they give you a chance if you were a big time flight simulator player? Just bringing this back to Geekery.

Yeah, it’s not bigotry if it’s aimed at a race or gender we don’t like. Right? White women can’t be part of a diversity conversation. It’s ok to paint a group of people with a derogatory label so long as we agree that we don’t like that group. These white women should just be quiet and know their place. Right

Is anyone else just tired of the way all the headlines around this imply something like “the invention of kissing” or “first kiss happened at this time” etc? It’s like: no, this is just the oldest exemplar of a record about it. It was almost certainly going on for thousands of years before.

Freedom of speech is hugely important, and doubly so when it comes to bad people. You -want- to know what they believe.

I think part of the charm is someone from one culture attempting things from another. It’s a very peculiarly American thing to be offended about one person trying something outside of their own experience. Oddly, I think most Americans would argue that is exactly the point of America, but many people today certainly

Hey. Everyone with strong opinions about who should be in this. Have you SEEN THE MOVIE? Take a look at the people in the background. The whole point is that these guys are being kicked out of a lily white colonial party. There aren’t any southeast asian dancers in this scene either. (This is the part where the

You expect AVClub readers to actually -watch- the movie they have strong opinions about?

The snake eats its own tail. The wolf eats its own young. These things are mostly about convenience and probably whomever their casting crew had on rolodex. You can’t really win. There will always be someone angry.

I haven’t read the book, so I’m not making an opinion statement other than that characteristics of bad people aren’t demonized de facto. Draco Malfoy had blonde hair. I don’t feel blonde people are being demonized. To the extent that she might be using an allegory to express how she feels (trans person killing an

When I see “passion” on a resume, I usually discard it immediately unless it’s in a “hobbies” section.

But what if they are a slightly tanned person? Is it still colonialism then?

Agree with this. Twitter has made everyone an “expert” on things they’ve never actually consumed. It’s like we’ve all gotten really comfortable talking about things that we just recently read an article on in Wikipedia, and we all feel our opinions are therefore super legit.
