I guess the larger point is to say "the city and NY state are very, very different" rather than to highlight specific political affiliations. That said: I should probably take a more active role in my state's politics. Ha!

Yep, totally agreed. The only reason NYC is "special" is because it accounts for almost half of the whole state, vs California (or I would think anywhere else...no hard facts to back this up, ha!) where I doubt that any one city accounts for about 50% of the state's population.

It always sort of bugs me when NYC is lumped in with NY state for these sorts of things. I wonder, if the city was cut out, if it would still be Chinese or not...I strongly suspect it would be different.

Ha! That sucks: some colorblind people (*raises hand*) can't tell that the top image is layered. I can tell it's lighter up top, and darker at the bottom, but assumed that had to do with the top of the wall being closer to a light source.

That was easily the worst defense of NYC I've ever heard. Maybe I'm just slow today and that was the point, but if all you've got are "food is good/cheap and there's stuff to do" I humbly submit that you're doing it wrong :)

Of that, I must admit, I am jealous :)
