Kotaku trades in controversy clicks

Is anybody saying they want Final Fantasy to be stagnant? People seem to be criticizing the specific changes, not the idea of it changing in general.

The funny thing is that I am a massive Monster Hunter fan, and I’ve enjoyed the Bayonetta and Ninja Gaiden games. To me, FFXVI does not scratch the same itch as those three series do when it comes to action games. I don’t play those games for some 20+ hours of story cutscenes. The action is the point. I don’t play

This is a really great take on it. I’ve been feeling like I’m being gaslit constantly whenever I express my disinterest in FFXVI even if I give the argument “Hey the demo didn’t impress me so I’m going to wait until it’s either heavily discounted or free on PS+.”

My disappointment in the direction the series has been

I don’t get why more people don’t understand this. Sure, it changes things up in more ways than a series like Tales or Dragon Quest or Phantasy Star would when looking at a series of games in a franchise but it has hardly ever not been within the framework of the JRPG genre (even if they may not like that term).

Well said overall. I’m perfectly fine with people loving FFXVI, more power to them, but this odd assertion that this was a natural turn for the franchise, one seen coming based on previous games evolution over the decades, just doesn’t track.

If the next James Bond movie is a rom-com, is it actually a *James Bond* movie?
If the next Song of Ice and Fire book is a hard sci-fi action romp, is it actually a *Song of Ice and Fire* book?
If the next Final Fantasy RPG game is an action game, is it actually a *Final Fantasy* game?

I like football. If I go to an NFL game and they play Curling, that’s the issue.

I miss the math, I miss the stats and the fact that if I’m not strong enough, I can grind a bit to shift the numbers in my favor.

Funnily enough, as a huge Devil May Cry fan I feel more or less the same way. I had hoped that the combat system would make up for the things I miss about FFs 4 through 10, but in retrospect that was silly of me - while the combat is perfectly serviceable and occasionally spectacular, it doesn’t really matter to me

I guess I’m really more disappointed that what I enjoyed in prior FF games is kind of no longer a thing in the series. Having a party with the dynamic involved there and the collaborative goal to save the world. There were periods of mirth and humor between the darker plot themes, and it wasn’t trying too hard to be

Oh man, Lost Odyssey.  That’s an example of what a proper AAA Final Fantasy could be.  It’s really unfortunate that Square Enix is pushing further and further away from that style of gameplay.  I’d love to get another FF game with that type of gameplay and modern visuals.

Yes agreed, Sisi took some of this out of context for a rage bait article. If the game is all white people, that is fine. If it’s all black people that would be cool. All Asian people, alright by me. Some mix of everything, great! A more diverse cast makes for a better experience in my opinion. But, not all games need

Yeah, but context doesn’t make rage bait articles!!

I am not gonna get caught up in this until the game releases but that quote was limited and the full quote makes a bit more sense

Have these guys ever seen pvp culture on other games?

This may seem like an overly cynical and bad-faith interpretation of what Critical Role is doing with this new campaign.”

I agree with that statement actually, everything should be fair game.

Yes! Finally a place where I can offload all these NFTs. My father died and left behind an attic just packed with rare, but near mint NFTs. Some of these haven’t been seen since the 1800s. In fact, I took one of the NFTs to be appraised, and the guy said it was an actual Civil War era NFT owned by George Custer.

A lot of players like a sense of progression. It also helps build up their skills better. Five people with ten hours under their belt playing Midnight Club: Los Angeles are going to be on much more level ground than five people with ten hours under their belt playing Counter Strike: Global Offensive. Simply because
