This fad isn't close to dead, nor was it "ill-fated." Tons of people, myself included, still like the look and it typically looks great on high-end cars. My Audi is murdered out and it looks badass.

What makes you say this was the first streamlined BMW? The 326 was equally 'streamlined' and came out a year before. The 315 and 319 roadsters were much the same.
