I'm sorry for the harassment and awful treatment you've been subject to over the years and the course of this story. Hopefully my brief anecdote will afford you a smile.

You're welcome. Hope it helps!

In this case Nero was doing the burning...

Google a list of chem. companies/ refineries in your area, so you know where you're trying to get in. Then, find out when they're testing again (you don't just send a résumé & then interview- you usually have to take a math/science/mechanical test that will get you invited for an interview). Also, if you get hired far

Yes, creative writing. My degree has zero to do with oil refining. Your degree proves that you have the capacity to stick with something long term & learn, & that's one of the things they're looking for. When I was a kid, you got hired at refineries by being related to someone- that's all you needed. As the old guard

Nooo! Don't say that. I have 2 degrees myself. Also, dirty little sexism secret: you'll get hired a lot faster in a refinery with a degree, as a woman, than without one- unless you're coming out of ptech school. Of course, more men can get in by just showing up straight out if high school, from connections through

When I was 17 I found a box of pads at the DC Safeway across the street from me that had a $5.99 sticker over the suggested retail price of $4.99 that was printed on the package. The manager defended it, saying that price was only suggested.

Women need the information desperately. So many think the work is quite different day to day, than what it is. A lot of women I've talked to think it's like old-school prison labor, and it's not. However, I'm in oil. These jobs are regional, as refineries & rigs aren't everywhere. Also, for women who might say moving

I would love to see a story about women getting into trades - Jez editors, here's your source.

Exactly. I't super fucked up. And some of the men who have said terrible comments about how we look have actually tried to invest in our company. SORRY, NOPE, PAL.

I need to borrow Jason Sudeikis' cardigan

The goofy thing for me is that if he wants to stop people eating meat, targeting an ethical family farm isn't exactly the best way to do it. Most Americans would look at Suzie's Farm's business practices and go "yeah, sounds totally reasonable."

Who has something like that one their face for 20 years and doesn't see a doctor? I would last maybe 20 months TOPS before I was like, get it off. NOW.

Everyone knows a Mexican pizza is a weird and strangely delicious Taco Bell thing that you cover in their weird sauce and love without admitting it and we shall never speak of this again.

See, at my house, when something is singed/burned, we call it Cajun Blackened Whatever. Hey you guys! We're having Cajun Blackened Pizza tonight! *dares anyone to complain*

Yeah, NOPD gave a badge and a gun to Antoinette Frank. I have zero faith in them and am overwhelmingly not-shocked that they failed to investigate or do anything about violence in the city. I've even heard it said that there's no organized crime in New Orleans because the police beat the criminals to the punch.

This needs to be on billboards all over the world. I never would have believed I was susceptible to dickmatizing but, folks, it happened to me. If there was not such a supply/demand imbalance re: good dick, women would not be willing to pay the price of their comfort, dignity, safety, self-worth, security, etc.

I'm originally from the NOLA area, and it's shit like this that I point to whenever someone asks "Would you ever move back?" and I say no. It's such an amazing city, but there are so many entrenched social and political issues that I just can't imagine every being dealt with properly.

Here's what I don't get - she caught him cheating red-handed with his ex at that restaurant and stayed with him (albeit off and on) for another SIXTEEN YEARS.

Jesus. There aren't enough tables in the world to flip after reading this. I don't have the words to express my level of disgust. Bravo to Maria Treme for coming forward to call attention to this.
