It's a nice vehicle but the Mitsu Delica has so much more going for it... don't think they ever made it stateside, but 4WD, Manual, turbo diesel, low range transfer case, captains chairs, crystalite roof with power curtains, etc. etc. freaking great.
I can't help but think you're driving this because it sort of vaguely resembles a VW Beetle, to keep up the quote of Beetle related posts.
I'm thinking incandescent globe in one and HID or similar in the other - old globes put out a lot of heat and IR, wheras new tech is more efficient by not wasting energy emitting light we can't see.
I'm curious why one headlight isn't showing up on the FLIR? First I assumed it was busted but then I saw it does show up in the visible footage.
They're missing out on valuable revenue if they don't!
I could never own one of these; I'd want to take it off road but would be too concerned about scratching and denting a modern classic. I hope they rocket in value though.
This looks crazy, but the truck is operating well within its limits. The motor will run submerged no problem, so long as the air intake, diff and gearbox breathers are above water; they will be mounted up high for this exact reason. The ECU and fuse box needs to be watertight or above water as well. The driver knows…
Happy to see another MU on Jalop, but sadly this one is CP due to removal of 4x4 bits. This car is now all bark and no bite. I'm going to go and give mine a hug and reassure I will never do anything like this to it.
One of the few times I would not recommend a diesel. Let's assume the atmosphere the aliens inspect the vehicle in contains large amounts of a combustible gas. After ignition, the car would begin to ingest unrestricted quantities of it through the air intake; RPMs would rise uncontrollably, and the exhaust would belch…
Dude I had this exact conversation a couple days ago:
I can only dream what a new ES version would look like. The original is pure automotive erotica.
Their target market right there. I can't imagine who else would buy such a thing.
There I fixed it.
I had the motor replaced in my '79 Prelude, and the transmission changed from a two speed semi auto to a five speed manual. The clowns ass that put the new motor in somehow installed only two of the three engine mounts, so every time I hit the throttle the whole motor would kick up about three inches at the back, and…
That's crazy... I thought Sony was the first out around '85 with a proprietary disk based camera. I guess crappy CMOS cameras are still based on this tech today. Great article.
Yep branded as Corolla.
We have these in Australia, I see them all the time. I'd rock one for commuting duties in a heartbeat. The photos aren't that flattering, but in person it looks great, the wagon especially.
Had this stuck in my head the entire time reading this.
Dang that Impulse would be the perfect counterpart to my Isuzu MU. I wonder if the MU 2.8 turbo diesel would fit in there... 400 Nm with a bit of coaxing. Yes please.
