Stealing a recipe and getting it right are two very different things.

We know for sure that life exists wherever there's water. we don't know if it does without water. Using water as a criterion to sample planets/moons to search alien life is much easier given the limited resources we have.

I don't know...I think it will be like the day that we found the Higgs Boson, or how we just confirmed the Big Bang: a bit anti-climatic given that we are just confirming what most people already believe. Now, the day we find intelligent extraterrestrial life, that will be something.
