So, have we found a theoretical upper limit on the humungous size of these elements? Is there a size where an element can't even stay together for a Planck time? Or is anything possible under the right conditions, theoretically?

I don't think she's being defensive about it at all. Nor do I think it was an especially poor choice of words.

How do they define social strata? Wasn't the Sphinx built circa 10,000 B.C. by current estimates—wouldn't that imply a slave class of sorts?

They're just called the Wachowskis now, not the Wachowski Bros.—they're brother and sister. Lana (formerly Larry) came out as trans recently (she's credited as Lana on Cloud Atlas), even though it was known for some time before that.
