There are many technical words used in many professions that are used differently in everyday speech. It's really not that hard to differentiate between the two.

The kind of signature I hate most is "spare the trees — don't print this email out." Either that, or "This email and its contents are property of X corporation and cannot be read without agreeing to our mind-bogglingly stupid list of baseless legal threats."

Compared to the cost of a lot of other companies' promotions, it's cheap. Promotional distribution can be really expensive, especially if it's not just a single piece of plastic like this, but something with functional parts like pens or flashlights or all kinds of other things companies give in promotional deals.
