Pretty sure I’ve already seen people post $175 1TB SSDs that seem fast enough for PS5 (Sony has not yet released an official compatibility list)

Uh, no, the SSD doesn’t have to be “designed to work for PS5.” It just needs to be fast enough for PS5. I can guarantee you that the budget gamer is going to be able to expand their PS5 storage for much less than Series X|S.

Remember that the PS5 also has the ability to boot games into specific sections, meaning “cold-booting” a game would already be faster even if the SSDs were the same. Also, how few games do you play where you expect to only ever be Quick Resuming? I tend to play a single game for a while, then put it down for a year

I recently replayed Lost Odyssey on Xbox One, and I was kindof struck by the number of small issues I ran into. Nothing huge, but there were numerous visual and interaction issues that aren’t present on the 360. Mainly because most people talk up the BC job of Microsoft, I wasn’t expecting weird issues.

There are an additional 100,000 surplus deaths this year not earmarked as COVID-related. In reality, most of those 100,000 are likely due to the pandemic, so the number should actually be in the 300,000 range.

Sony has been around for almost twice as long as Microsoft. (Sony est: 1946, Microsoft est: 1975). They should have churned through more things. However, I’m not sure that they have.

You can get PSNow for $60/year, which I believe makes it cheaper than Game Pass. At worst they’re the same price. You can install and locally play any of the PS4 games.

And Aragami and LEGO: Indiana Jones are on PSNow.

In the case of DRM, it wasn’t normalized, it codified into law (via the DMCA)!

Right. If you have a media server, you can stream hundreds if not thousands of movies at once. All you’re sending is pre-compiled data. The client’s machine is responsible for all the heavy lifting (which is mainly just decoding and running a video player). For games, however, the media server needs to actually be runn

Better safe than sorry?

I just want to point out that major employees leaving/stepping down isn’t necessarily an indication of poor management, a messy game, or a bad company. People leave companies and positions all the time for various reasons. So I wouldn’t be too quick to jump to any conclusions just yet.

Is it? Sony still produces some of the best headphones and mirrorless cameras (though Canon seems to be overtaking the latter)

The double whammy of not being able to pre-order being tied to also not getting a free game would be especially brutal.

Well, I remember hating the Impulse Triggers.

The US had Japanese concentration camps. Certainly the US flag still carries a negative connotation to anyone/descendants of anyone involved.

Does Germany still use swastikas? No

One huge thing this guy is missing is that video games are active form of media. Whereas streaming somebody watching Spider-Man the movie is basically the same as watching it yourself, streaming somebody playing Spider-Man the video game is not the same as playing it yourself.

I feel like it was more a case of Japan itself being unable to find its footing. Japanese developers seemed too scared to let their games be Japanese. Most of their criticism was along the lines of “stop trying to force your games to be something they’re not, western.”

I recently did a playthrough of Hand of Fate at around 95% completion. I decided to defeat the boss then go back and get the last remaining content. I beat the game, then while auto-saving before the ending scene, the game crashed, corrupting the One True Save of the game. All my progress was deleted by the game
