You can set out to do something original and then still try to put it into terms someone will easily understand later on. I don’t see the issue here.

“Existential” has a few usages. In this context, it means a threat to humankind’s existence. I think you’re thinking of it like when an individual has an existential crisis, which is a little different.

It sort of reminds me of when I would shut myself into my room as a kid and when I’d finally emerge to join the family, my mother would just have to say some mocking variation of “oh, look who decided to finally join us...”

The responses to Tomato around here are utterly perplexing. He came over to Deadspin once a few months ago and everyone ignored him. He hasn’t been back.

I don’t know how people can spout “you should support the president no matter what” with a straight face. That’s the kind of sentiment you’d expect to hear in... certain other countries. The freedom to openly disagree with the government is a pretty foundational principle over here!

You’re saying “forget VAR for minor infractions that never get called anyway,” but I think the idea is to slowly change players’ mentalities on these types of things. These infractions never got called in the past because there just weren’t enough eyes to do so.
