As another commenter noted, it wasn’t just the one oversight. She provided no details regarding the manner in which she reached out for comment or the timelines thereof, which is relevant given the team was in the middle of a major (for them) tournament at the time.

This sentiment will never not get a star from me.

Oh, I have a take for this. This is being trotted around as though some sort of shocking and revelatory survey result, but I dunno. Do I think I could win a point off her? My friend, I do not. Do I think 12% of men could? My friend, I do not. But I would actually have expected this % to be much higher (not of men who

Fair enough! I think we’re all wired to process language differently.

I had the same thought. It’s missing punctuation, sure, but Deadspin finding this incomprehensible is more incomprehensible than the text itself.

I’ll win you over one of these says, Scoop, with my aggressive reasonableness, even if it involves some kind of Clockwork Orange style aversion therapy in a pitch black room endlessly playing daytime WEEI.

Who invited Charlie Kirk’s alcoholic dad?

It felt like Pizarro was handing him his ass all over the field, particularly in the second half.

I went to a Giants/Jags game across the pond a few years ago and it was a delightfully weird sports experience in the sense that no one really wanted to murder the fans of the opposing team. People were just kind of there having fun and enjoying the experience.

Totally hear you, but I have really been enjoying the mini-renaissance of turn-based games (though many meet your criteria of being purposefully retro!) from XCOM and Hearthstone a few years ago to the more recent Slay the Spire, Darkest Dungeon, Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes, Divinity Original Sin, and others. Keep ‘em

I sometimes find myself nostalgic for the Walter McCarty/Tony Battie era

Well I would certainly never pass up an opportunity to blame FIFA.

I appreciate this thoughtful counterpoint!

“Score all the goals you can but maybe don’t celebrate like crazy when you’re up double digits” just seems like such a reasonable and common-sense take. The fact that it’s getting so much push-back is absolutely wild to me.

That second tweet tells two stories. First, like you say, yes, zero goals means they’ve been shut down. But 30 scoring chances, ten of which were “high danger,” seems to suggest they’ve been a bit unlucky and/or faced excellent goal-tending (which they did).

Reminds me a little bit (definitely not the same thing but a little bit!) of Jeb trying to sustain a campaign based on “my father was a great man!” Didn’t work great for our sweet boy Jeb.

“Please do a solid favor and go do something which is anatomically impossible”

If I could just add to this, I believe the correct pronunciation is Danny DeVito saying the word “whores.”

Username checks out.

I don’t think the earnest enthusiasm (the first few words of the tweet) is the issue here. His claim that the shot should be taught (??) in any film studies class is a bit silly and perfectly worthy of some tame, mild mockery.
