I think it's unusual for small government employees for the reason that it's a small town gazette expose waiting to happen. "How can Leslie Knope understand the average Pawnee resident when she shops... in EAGLETON?!"

Is there a reason why all British magazines come with free shit and American magazines don't? Because that would make me buy all the magazines.
I think that there are certain scenes where higher-end clothes make sense, like Entertainment 720 or Rent-a-Swag, obviously, but also with April and Ben in DC. I have a feeling that even with all the money in the world they will still intentional dress the characters to make them look frumpy.
They employed a bit of magic narrative bullshit and made her the Parks Department's health coordinator or something crazy. So she spends 50% of her work week at the PD and 50% at the hospital. It makes no sense, but at least they addressed it.
Honestly, I think the irony that Tracie's pointing out here is that, in the tradition of TV stylists, they are attempting to make these women look like Old Navy and Walmart shoppers with high-end clothes. Why? Nobody knows why. But the frump is intentional for sure.
I wanted it so bad when it came out last year and stupidly didn't buy it.
I find myself coveting most of the J Crew, but then I have to wonder what the point of a $200 sweater is if it could pass for something at The Gap.
Old Navy or, if she was feeling fancy, The Gap.
mte — and I love the detail where she name-checks them, the way someone who couldn't quite afford them would.
This was a plot point in the books that didn't quite carry through into the TV show, but the idea was that Pam was all designer "goth" for work and then loved looking super kitsch irl. Books Pam wouldn't have had a problem with this sweat suit, apart from the fact that it wasn't pink.
WHY WAS LESLIE IN EAGLETON?
And it's obvious from the wardrobe choices that they were going for a "frumpy/quirky cat lady" vibe for her, so why not just get her stuff from Target?
Yeahhh. Man, I've never seen a show hit the shit so quickly. And the worst part was that it was supposed to be cheesy and weird and it faltered when they took it too seriously.
One thing I liked about True Blood — the first season, at least — was that the costume department said that they didn't want to have a waitress in rural Louisiana dressed in Dior. So they specifically went after Forever 21 and Delia's and other stores that a girl like Sookie would actually shop at.
Yep. And he recently made a statement that part of the reason he hated Kubrick's Shining was both the treatment of the character Wendy and the experience that the actress herself had on set.
Yeah... King is a great ideas man, but he's never impressed me as a writer.
Is it just a coincidence that all those books are by women?
Do you know if Stevia has the same issue? I know that there's the whole weird, "It's from a leaf so it can't be bad for you" line of BS, but maybe because it tastes awful I don't seem to get that same surge.
I've noticed that splenda gives me the same sugar cravings that sugar does. Not to undermine my own point there, but that's something that always gives me pause. I've been trying to cut it out entirely, but I realize how much of my liquid diet is "sweet."
Do go on.
