There's only 1 game on the Vita which made me really want the system, and that was Wipeout. There aren't a ton of games for the Vita, and many of those that are don't seem all that interesting to me. The memory cards for the Vita are prohibitively expensive, which doesn't help when the system itself is expensive.

So the lack of games on both systems is less of a factor for low sales than the name??

Cost more, sure, OK. But does it really need to cost THAT much more? Systems don't even come with a free game any more, unless you're getting some holiday bundle with a game that's been out for a long time.
