I do think the s7 eps including Time of the Doctor suffered from not having two parts to flesh it out (even if the ratings had showed that people don't watch both). It always felt like Matt Smith got the short end of the stick compared to David Tennat. Tennat got longer seasons, bigger plot arcs over episodes, and a full 2 hour regeneration special. Smith only got a measly 60 minute special that crammed too many ideas into to fully flesh them out in that timespan.

Not a movie yet, but a very good series of novels.
