I agree. Canadian media never just says something happened 'in the US', they narrow down at least by state. Would it really be so hard to throw a province in there once in a while?!

It's true. But we call them Caesars not Bloody Marys. And they are really, really gross!
Okay kind of mean, but seriously, that story really made me laugh. Middle school boys are just the worst, and maybe this was over the top, but come on! Who hasn't wanted to seriously mess with some annoying punks at some point? I would feel bad about it too, but deep down, a tiny part of me would still be laughing.
Are you me? Seriously, I have had that fear of the unknown tumor almost my entire life. I'm almost 30 and I'm afraid that the constant, unending panic and paranoia might actually end up causing the health problems I'm so terrified of. Anyway, you're not alone!!!
Pretty unrelated, but I moved away from Calgary last year, to a sad no-Ikea island (well Vancouver Island is awesome, but NO IKEA). I miss that Ikea so hard...and it did have great restrooms, and a fantastic market place, and ooooh the affordable furniture. I really miss that Ikea!
I drag this story out EVERYTIME there is a pap smear type post, but I'm going to do it again, because that's just what I do. At 24 I was diagnosed with early-stage, yet aggressive cervical cancer. I had had seven straight years of normal pap smears, but it never crossed my mind not to get it done annually. So they…
Ugh. I live on Vancouver island super close to the US and my cell phone is always connecting to the various US carriers. Luckily, my carrier (Telus) sends me a free text every time this happens, so I just turn off my signal until I know I'm away from the US range. I believe Telus will also not charge you in these…
To be fair, when I was a baby and a toddler I was falling and bumping into things constantly. I have a lovely scarred up face as a result. One day I was crawling and fell onto a toy (it was the bucket part of the bucket with the top for different shaped pieces). Back then (early 80s) the bucket was sort of sharp.…
Yup! When I was 17 I had a ridiculous (and actually horrible) life plan of meeting my future husband at 21, getting married at 23, having my first child at 26, second at 28. I'm now 30 and thanking my lucky stars that I didn't marry the idiot I was dating at 20! Also life has a way of messing with all of the…
Me too. Stupid chocolate and vanilla. Meh. I want some tagalongs and samoas!!!
You are not! I actually googled how to make heart-shaped hard boiled eggs because having no written instructions was pretty useless...
I just LOVE how (some of) Americans come here (I live in a very touristy Canadian city, so I witness the outbursts you have described fairly regularly) and just expect to use their cash for everything. They get sooooo defensive and angry when you can't/won't accept it, and it is ridiculous. Seriously, be prepared! …
A former Alberta girl here! Back on topic...I had 8 years of completely normal paps...on the 9th year I had cancer cells. I have a particularly aggressive form of HPV and it had progressed really quickly. Had I been put on the every three years plan, I would have certainly been facing full-blown cancer treatments…
Same procedure, but somehow in the process they took too much of the cervix and damaged the cervical crypts that produce cervical mucous. As a result I have virtually no cervical mucous, which is leading to fertility issues. Hopefully we'll be able to try IUI soon and sort it out!
My pap saved my life. When I was 26 my cervical cancer was detected super early so it was easy to treat. I think there is nothing wrong with being a little overly cautious when you're dealing with cancer. And yes, now I am facing fertility issues due to the procedure, but you know what? I would rather have…
Aaaah!! Please, please PLEASE go get one. At 26 my cervical cancer was detected at a very early stage. My pap saved my life. I hate that there are places where there is a taboo about it :-( Good luck! Be strong!
I lived in Calgary at the time. It was an oil and gas company (though a smaller one, probably why my dirty result was ignored). I think they just like to have the policy as an easy way to get rid of employees who could actually be endangering people if they are intoxicated.
I'm from Canada and had to take a random drug test for a job I had. To be honest I don't know WHY since I failed it (had some pot in my system from a couple weekends before) and no one seemed to care. I think the company just had the policy and then could use their discretion to decide if a dirty result was a…
Since I didn't care (about much when I was planning; I left a lot of decisions to other people) I gave my bridesmaids a big range of colours and then told them to buy what they wanted as long as they had different colours from each other. They also had to collectively decide whether they wanted long, tea-length or…
@timetorambleon: I think about this every time I shower: I hate showering, but I hate being dirty. I so would be on-board with the Jetsons conveyor belt. I'm glad I'm not the only one!
