If you aren’t gonna fly take a bus option where available. Any passenger rail based option is at best a 5th concern for routing priority in the US. Rail traffic planning in the US prioritizes cargo over passenger and bulk liquids over everything. A bus can change its actual route to deal with problems with ease.
