Was the survey something along the lines of “raise your hand if you’ve heard of...”
I think it’s gross and I have no respect for any person who did this.
“I think I echo your sense of confusion around what it really means to say that “the times were different,” and how that is both simultaneously an explanation and a failure of an explanation.”
I found it equal parts maddening and sad. Without getting into the debate about female sexual agency, even for minors, the fact that she says she didn’t feel exploited, that these men were actually protecting her, that she considers herself ‘special’ so there was nothing unusual about grown men sleeping with…
I don’t think the law is about why or whether you wanted to have sex with him. The law is about why or whether an adult wants to have sex with a teenager. It’s totally understandable that teenagers glamorize and desire older men - everything about that time in our lives says hurry, grow up! As teenagers, we are naive…
Here’s what I want to know...
I’m not sure if I would put this in the context of “that’s what everybody did back then” because 1) then why did Cosby & Polanski need to drug girls/women and 2) this happens today. Hello R. Kelly.
As a rock musician, I see and hear people defend this behavior all the time. A lot of people’s favorite musicians were boning children, and nobody likes to say how fucked up it was. Look at Steven Tyler! People are still shocked when I tell them the crazy shit he did. You’d think everyone would know by now, but they’d…
I think clover really doesnt like taylor and doesnt want to give her credit at all. I also feel she took this tone to piss commenters off and get clicks.
Agreed. I mean, she’s not my cup of tea. At the Mitch Connor music awards things would have looked a little different, but this sounds a little like, “How dare a woman take credit for her own success?” which is never a good look.
I file stuff like this under “black men are still men,” ie, they might be marginalized for their skin, but they still treat women like shit.
Maybe. But I’m on Swift’s side. I know she’s a vanilla white girl we all roll our eyes over, but she’s one of many women who have to put up with this shit from men looking for cheap plugs.
Exactly what I was thinking. Personal feelings about TSwift aside, how is a woman asserting herself and taking (deserved) credit for her own accomplishments something to mock or deem “insufferable”?
Something something white privilege?
But why can’t Taylor stand up for herself? I’m sure if it was one of us we would’ve done the same thing up on that stage and maybe not as nicely either.
I have a hard time on a feminist blog finding a way to be anything but Team Taylor on this one. She may have an incredibly planned public persona and is annoyingly twee (can we PLEASE retire #squadgoals forever ??), but Kanye is the literal worst.
Fucking good for her. I'd be pissed if some egomaniacal dude was trying to take credit for my massive success too. This is the most I've ever liked Taylor Swift.
I’m super not getting what insufferable thing Taylor Swift did here.
“A corrupt police department bungled the investigation and an overly zealous AD blew the prosecution.”
Sucks for you.
