I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite overall franchise, but it does seem to be the one I replay the most, because it’s real easy to reinstall, and it still plays great to this day. Max Payne 2 in particular might still be the best non-cover based shooter ever made.

Even putting aside the uncanny valley effect of The Polar Express that makes it seem like a chilling horror movie, or maybe an spiritual predecessor to Anomalisa, I was just really disappointed that it lacked the unique charm, the quiet mystique of the original book. The movie comes off as tacky in comparison.

If anything, the games have become more casual friendly over the last several entries.

I think you’re right that Nintendo definitely seems like the kind of company where there are well-meaning people trying to do what they think is right

Nintendo seems like a company where the left arm has no idea what the right arm is doing. As if the marketing team is unaware, or unable, to influence the legal team on this decision — something that turns free publicity that you can’t buy into bad publicity that you should never want. The success of Smash is contingen

You really have to wonder how much oversight Nintendo is actually exercising over GameFreak. Every in-house game would absolutely be delayed, rather than released in this state. Splatoon’s got networking issues to be sure, but graphically, it is spot the fuck on. Looks great, plays great.

It’s really sad that Switch hardware is even holding back their first party titles

“It is a good thing, but the question though is, is it the priority? Is it more of a priority than things like merit that should matter more?”

really, wtf, people want to get into the airport for fun... and now I need to wait in a longer line.

I can’t say I buy that argument. DOOM 2016 and Eternal is a fun-fucking-tastic step-up that was a direly needed improvement over the rather placid DOOM 3. Granted, it is sad it took so many years to finally improve on the 90's shooter format — perhaps we were waylaid by the rise of Call of Duty — but it is definitely

...and if you think it plays like a game from 20 years ago, then go and try to play Shenmue again nowadays. That game is basically unplayable and is paced so slowly that the amount plot of the first Shenmue, happens in 2-3 chapters in one Yakuza game.

Japanese games also seem to be held to a lower standard in terms of design. I finally gave into all the praise, and played Yakuza 0 back in February... and found the game game to just be a Shenmue clone. It plays like something from 20 years ago! This is also my experience every time I dip my toe back into JRPGs —

think you’re conflating the relative neutrality of people

Dividing it in two giant blocks blots out how Gen X contrasts with earlier generations, though: Boomers/Silent tend to be more liberal than Gen X at-large — which shouldn’t be too surprising, the older gen is the civil rights generation, while those who ‘came of age’ during Clinton are a minority of Gen X compared to

Well as a Millennial, I dislike many Gen X’ers, cause they disproportionately favor MAGA compared to every other generation (including Boomers!). Get your shit together, y’all.

I think that plagues millennials as much as Gen Z, though.
