The Firestone thing wasn’t the tires, it was Ford. They spec’d too low a psi to try to get a car like ride out of the Ranger station wagon that was the first generation Explorer which reduced the load capacity of the tires. Put in two American adults, couple of kids and a bunch of crap in the back and bang.
