I always cringe when I see one of these things pull into the lot at the shop. If you want tires I can help but otherwise I wouldn't touch one. And like most luxury SUVs most people who buy them used have no clue what tires or anything else will cost.

My son has a 94 that won't die no matter how much I wish it would so he'd get something better. It's been through 3 of my kids.

We had one. Couple years older. Was my sons dream car. So happy he sold it that thing was scary fast.

Suggested this very thing months ago. We needed a place for this badly and thanks to Jalopnik for getting us one.

Saw the snowbirds a couple months ago. Great show. Nobody has anything to teach them about formation flying.

Any possible defense of the PT Cruiser can be destroyed in seconds by any tech who's ever had to work on one. Mechanically its a squished Neon. No room to get to most anything. And that spare tire carrier was just poorly executed.

Great info here. Really like these kinds of posts. And thank you for stressing how to do these things safely.

Tav, can I call you Tav? Tav buddy I’m a super big fan, but I can’t go with you on a PT. the part time cruiser is too big a pain to work on. (For most guys; I realize you cut your teeth on Audi camshafts). Every thing under that hood is crammed tighter than it has to be. And it’s ugly. And a Chrysler. It’s a big ugly

All those old run flats are long gone and the new Bridgestone Driveguard run flat is a good touring tire. Those wheels tho. They are a PITA.

Sure, but back then you could convert a car factory to building airplanes. Much more complicated now.

Check spelling of “primarily “ under fastback.

I heard that slightly differently, that the car was to be a vw also marketed by Porsche. But I don’t claim to have any solid info just a fuzzy long term memory.

I have a guy that can do it in less than half an hour.

CarQuest is Advance now. Advance is going to concentrate on the DIY business and Carquest on the commercial side, but it’s the same company now. So Advance can get you Carquest parts and vice versa. At least on the commercial side, I assume it’s that way for DIY.

I have a little different perspective on this. I run a shop.

Mt Juliet, Tennessee

Is that a baaaaaackpack?

Vent windows. Yes, crank windows and bench seats too. And drip rails on the roof too ( I know not in the picture).

Well I can’t say I never just put a head on a flat surface, tried to slide a piece of paper under it, called it good and put it back on. But yeah in general if you can have a machine shop check it by all means do so.

They do. Temp sensors too.
